Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Brother Levonian Saison is named for the late Dave Levonian, a San Diegan who was a great homebrewer, an avid beer enthusiast and generally just a really good person. Ballast Point is donating all of the money from the beer to his daughter’s college fund.

Draught at the brewery. Clear gold with a small head. Aroma of some spices, lemon and oranges. The flavor is dry and bready with some spicy pepper and other spice. I’m getting quite a few things, but they seem to muddle and cancel each-other out. Light on body with lots of carbonation. I’d love to have this out of a bottle; I think that the conditioning could add some nice nuance, on-tap this was a bit messy.

Draft. A golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of citrus, brettanomyces, and a light touch of malt. The flavor is sweet with notes of citrus, herbs, and light malts, as well as a touch of brettanomyces, leading to a citrusy finish.

On tap at the Linda Vista location: Poured a glowing orange color that was clear and easily visible through. Had a tiny layer of head that retreated to a naked saison rather quickly. When I took my first sniff it had a danky aroma that reminded me of chronic but it also was slightly spiced with a scent of yeast. The flavor was unique Belgian farmhouse style ale with spicy yeast that became more apparent then my nose was able to detect. Had a bit of a metallic taste and finished with a coriander aftertaste.

On tap at Stone. Rich orange amber in the glass with no head. Citrus and apple on the nose. Yummy and sweet in the mouth. Lots of fruitiness and spice. Nice brew.

On tap at Stone. Deep golden orange color with a finger of solid white head. Aroma is grainy and malty with floral and clove notes. Flavor is honeyed malt with some lemon zest, clove, bananas, and yeast. Sweeter than your standard Belgian saison but still pretty tasty. Medium body, semidry finish, decent drinkability.

Draft. Golden beer with a whitish head. Yeasty aroma with some spice and hops. Yeasty, malt flavor with some backing spice. Medium bodied. Spice and yeast lingers with some frtuiiness.

Draft PB Taproom - pretty clear bronze, halo of white. Nose of metallic apple juice, maybe some powdered sugar notes as well, but musty and mildew is what I smell. Watery testure, subdued flavors subtly hinting at belgian yeast nuances but not much else at all...don’t you just hate when you get the feeling the bar bitch pour the wrong beer...well, I can’t think of what else it would be up there on the tap list...this tastes like fucking crap! This hopefully isn’t the same recipe as the ports version because it doesn’t resemble it in any way shape or form. Fuck this shit...why does ballast point have such troubles with belgian styles...my first extract saison (my 2nd homebrewed beer ever) was way better than this...this is some kind of saison you’d expect from karl strauss or maybe a really bad BJs or Rockbottom..

Had on tap at Ballast point with DuffmanSW and mspindler. Very smooth refreshing easy to drink saison. Would be perfect on a hot summer day. Had a very mild yellowish color to it with fruits and spices in the taste.
