Commercial Description:
The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. Founded in 1992, the Mart continues to be a catalyst for the San Diego brewing scene, setting the trend for handcrafted ales. Inspired by our customers, employees and brewers, the Sculpin IPA is bright with aromas of apricot, peach, mango and lemon. Its lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. This delicious Ballast Point Ale took a Bronze Medal at the 2007 Great American Beer Festival in the Pro Am category. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin is considered some of the most tasty. Something that has a sting but tastes great, sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.

Rating #111. Bomber. Strong floral aroma right at the pour, and after at the glass, with a faint but solid mango scent working in. Flavor is solidly floral with mango and something like orange-strawberry-pineapple juice kicking in toward the middle-end palate. Really complex brew here. There’s actually a bitter funk at the beginning that blossoms into the rest of the palate and makes the whole thing that much more lovely. Bravo Ballast Point. This is a beer to remember!

Bottle courtesy of Stefanje. Pours like a pale pilsner with a one finger head. HUGE appetizing aroma of herb, wood, citrus, and earthy hops. Beautiful grapefruit fresh hop flavor, with a somewhat light easy drinking mouth feel. Hell of an IPA.

bottle courtesy of the beer sommelier. just what the doctor ordered for a 100+ day like today! light sweet, fruity nose, golder crytyl on the pour. the flovor is light and refreshing with a lil sweet in the front, a lil tart in the back. the palate is incredibly smooth, great session beer. a great ipa that proves you don’t have to make it a double to make it good.

Bright amber with a white head. Pure hop goodness in the aroma, tropical fruit sweetness and fresh citrus, far from harsh. Flavour is also very tropical, inviting and clean with a mindblowing hop composition that comes across more as lovely juice rather than hop plants. Body is light and it goes down easily.

bottle poured a light orange amber color with a white head that streaked down the glass. aroma has resiny hops, juicy citrus, sweet fruit, and perfect sweetness. crisp medium mouth feel. flavor hits an amazing hop level, citrus blasted, lemon rind, grapefruit, peach, apricot, fresh flowers, and plenty of sweetness. this is one amazing beer, really wowed me

on revisit this has an even more amazing nose, peach, sweet tropical, gentle citrus, balanced bitterness. everything is at such a dialed in level allowing the amazing hop flavors to be showcased.

Rerate 10/28/09 after scoring a case of these fuckers. Originally rated 8/9/09: shared 22 oz. bomber at Teresa’s. Poured golden with fizzy head. Fresh cut orange and grapefruit nose. Crisp, citrus hop flavor. This beer is all about FRESH CUT citrus fruit. Low IBUs make this one a great, sessionable IPA. Damn near perfection when it comes to IPAs.

Pours clear, light yellow orange with a disappearing off white head. Nice aroma of pine, florals, and grapefruit. The flavor has mango, peach, apricot, pine , grapefruit, and florals at the end. Sweet caramel rounds it out. Light bodied for a IIPA with an excellent flavor and palate. A top notch beer and one of my favorite IIPA’s.

Clear amber with a white head. Huge sticky home grown ganja bud aroma with pine and grass. medium body. Tongue numbing hoppy flavors of grass pine grapefruit, with some malty sweetness to cut the scorching hops a tad. Love the smell, but the flavors are on the harsh side.
