On-cask at Stone 11/16/07. Pours a reddish brown color with a thick white head that leaves lots of spider web lace down the glass. Red fruit and alcohol on the nose. I get the same kind of red fruit taste that I got on the nose, a good bit of malt on the palate, and of course some booze. Surprisingly thin, but not too thin. Subdued but still vibrant carbonation. Awesome beer. The best brew I’ve ever had on cask.

Draft... RBSG ‘08... Looks like caramel in a glass with a small, creamy, lightly tanned head. Terrific retention. Plush, lightly acidic, caramelly aroma. Full-bodied with a velvety mouthfeel and subdued carbonation. Bows toward the bitter side of balance... citrus and earthy hops are layered upon a caramel malt backbone. Lengthy, caramel and grapefruit rind finish.

Sample at the Linda Vista location. This beer is a mostly clear dark amber color with a medium and creamy beige head that recedes slowly. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt and touches of fruit. Rich, chewy body with a somewhat medicinal character. Syrupy sweet fruits along with malt and hops flavors. The finish is tart and fruity with a mild hops aftertaste. Would be well above average but the medicinal qualities knock it down a couple pegs.

On tap at Ballast Point in SD, CA--Deep ruby amber body with a thick off-white head. Hoppy, malty sweet boozy nose. Slight bublegum and candy nose, too. Fruity, chewy, mildly cloying mouthfeel. Sharp bitter boozy finish. Quite good.

Draught Good yellow-creamhead; maroon beer. US hops, milkchocolate, coffee cream, grapes and a fruity finish. Good bready, well-balanced sweet-bitter; finish is very dry-bitterish; flavours of exotic fruit. Well-balanced, quite slick, dry-out effect in the end. Good, if unbelievably discreet in the alcohol for a barley wine.

Pours a hazy amber red color with a tan head. Aroma is malty, caramel, some aged malts, alcohol, and some hops. Flavor is aged malts, caramel, some aged hops, and a nice bitter hop finish. This barleywine is great it combines the great aged barleywine flavor with the fresh hop bitterness.
