Appearance: Poured jet black with a one finger brown head that quickly dissipated. Aroma: Huge notes of cocoa, vanilla and a hint of coffee. Flavor: Strong coffee, cocoa and a strong vanilla finish. Palate: Medium/full body with a bit too much carbonation, but a silky smooth mouthfeel. Overall: This defines dessert beer. Vanilla is prominent in both the nose and mouth. Excellent beer.

Beer pours black as an earth wind & fire concert. Head is thin and fizzy and falls fast. Smooth lacing and a small halo is left behind.
Smells of cocoa and faintly of coffee.
Taste is very strong on coffee, not so much on vanilla, but you can really taste the roast. The coffee is strong, but smooth.
Hands down my favorite Ballast Point beer to date.
A little too thin on mouthfeel. I wanted this one to be a little creamier.
The alcohol warmth is perfect. You really dont get too much alcohol on your pallet, but it hits the back of your throat and chest and is pleasantly warming.
I will probably pick up a case of these in hopes to drink it next winter when it gets cold enough to really appreciate this style again. Dickinsonbeer (3494), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 2, 2009 Bomber. Pours a dark black with a thin head- lasts most of the time. Aroma is potent with dark roasty nutty chocolate and tons of sweet vanilla, with a good amount of coffee and slightly herbal as it warms- almost gets a bit annoying from the big vanilla though as you drink more. Flavor is dark chocolate - vanilla with marshmallow, toffee and molasses big sweetness, dark chocolate, some roast and coffee hints,- vanilla is still big with a bit of green throughout- toasty and a big non- drying chocolate finish. holdenn (1443), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Coffee, roasted malts, sweet chocolate, rich espresso, and grassy pine aromas. Coffee, sweet vanillas malt, roasty and lightly bitter with a touch of hops. The vanilla didn’t seem overbearing and all around a good beer. VikingHammer (363), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA
