Commercial Description:
Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer is created using the same ingredients that were once used in Belgium. Flaked unmalted wheat, oats and malted barley comprise the grain. The unmalted wheat has a high protein content, which causes the beer to be hazy, thus giving it a cloudy, or "white" appearance. A special yeast gives a refreshing tangy flavor that is different from both the sour Weiss beers of Berlin or the banana and clovey Weizens of Bavaria. The mild hopping allows the unique malts to show through and does not conflict with the subtleties of the citrus spicing. This unique citrus character is created by adding a blend of curacao (bitter orange), sweet orange and coriander to the boil. White beers are light and refreshing, yet provide a complex reminder that interesting high quality beer does not have to be bitter and dark. Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer is the perfect beer for sunny San Diego.

Many thanks to GorditoABD. Pours very pale yellow with about a finger high head. Smells very Hefeweizen-esque. Bananas and cloves, and a lot of fresh bread smell. Taste is a lot of clove with light banana, light citrus and some horseblanket. palate is quite smooth and drinkable. For what this is I would expect it to rate a bit higher than it does. I dont care for witbiers all that much but this one is quite drinkable.

22 oz. bottle from City Beverage in Winston-Salem. Pours a hazy pale yellow with a very thin white head. Aroma of ripe banana and orange. Bubblegum flavor as well as banana, coriander, and lemon zest. This is another one of those hybrid not quite a hefeweizen not quite a witbier beers. Not bad.

22oz bottle. Clear yellow, thin white head. Aroma is a touch of fruit and a bunch of Quaker Oats. Lots of oat smell. Flavor has a nice citrus, light orange. Watery texture. a nice bit of grain character.

Bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy, golden color with no head. Aromas of wheat, biscuit, and some malts. Slick start with a bit of liveliness, then a sticky finish. Flavors of wheat and some malts, with hints of citrus. Honestly this is a pretty "watery" beer and the taste is very light.

22oz bomber from Sam’s Quik Shop. Pours a cloudy, super bright, neon yellow with a small white head that has okay retention but very good lacing. One of the whitest beers I’ve seen. Aroma is huge overripe bananas, coriander, white pepper, sourdough bread. Taste has lots of raw oatmeal, earthy grains, lemongrass, sourdough bread. I think it was a good move to place this in the Belgian witbier category rather than wheat ale as this is pretty true to style. But this is a full-bodied witbier with a big grain presence. Very refreshing and a nice surprise.

I thought this would have rated a little higher. not a bad witbier at all, im not going to go into what this beer poured like and tasted like, we all know it by now, this was nice, true, not all that interesting, but a nice one.

Pours a pale hazy white yellow with a one finger crackly white head. The nose is grassy, with some wheat, citrus rind, isoamyl acetate. The flavor is crisp, notes of banana, wheat, mandarin orange, grassy hops. Palate is soft with a crisp carbonation.

Found on Topsail Island, NC. Pours a golden orange with a thin lacey white head. Has an aroma of orange peel and coriander. Tastes more like a classic wheat, flavors of banana and bubble gum. Very refreshing on a hot October day!
