I was pleasantly surprised by this $1.49 a bottle find. It has a nutty slightly roasted flavor and is pretty creamy to my tongue. It is a bit too wet for my liking but its very drinkable with almost a fruit or almond layer to it. The aroma is a bit nonexistent for me.

I’ve basically been clearing my fridge out of the beers I didn’t really want to try. This one pours a muddy dark brown color with a huge off-white head. Aroma is mostly bland with a hint of apple and honey. Weird grainy flavor with a sweet finish is really just gross. I really have to wonder what anyone sees in this stuff. Very bad.

Bottle. Poured a deep amber with a large frothy light brown head that lasted. Moderate toasted malt and caramel aroma. Medium body with a thin texture. Average sweet toasted malt flavor with a moderate finish. Drinkable brew.

Nothing really extraordinary here. A good beer on a good day and an average on most. A dark reddish/brown color with an off-white head. Caramel permeates the aroma and flavor thru and thru, with a nice helping of maltiness.

Odd yeast smells when the bottle was opened. Nice red foil deco. Pours looking nice, with large foam head over brown ale. Sweet nose of malts. Flavor is better than average, esp for the style. Very minimal hop bite, noticable only in the finish. While the palate is a little "off", this was still enjoyable. Pint .9 @ $2.50

Baltika Original Dark Beer pours to a bright, deep caramel color with a thick and creamy tan head, and a good bit of carbonation. The nose is very malty, with big waves of sweet and caramel malt aromas. The palate is a solid base of sweet and caramel malts, with flavors of fresh bread, and caramel on the tongue. The body is hefty, but round and clean, making it very drinkable. Baltika Original Dark Beer finishes with more big sweet malt flavors up front, then ends with a slightly cloying and warming finish. This was a very malt accented brew, and very well done in my opinion. Abv come in at right around 7% making this beer quite similar to bock bier, but not quite a dopple bock. This rich and warming brew, is the perfect beer to warm and comfort the soul during those long, cold, Russian winters. I would match this beer with hearty fare, beef stroganoff with egg noodles and a crusty rye bread, immediately comes to mind. It would work very well as a desert beer as well, and would make a great after dinner beer, or night cap. Impressive beer, from and impressive Russian brewery. Seek this beer out if you can find it in your market.
