| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Aug 20, 2009 Bottle. Pours dark brown and red with a medium white head. Aroma of roasted malts, sugar cane, and caramel. Flavor is much of the same; very little carbonation. Sweet, but not cloying, with sugar cane and brown sugar notes. Not super thick, but it’s a touch syrupy. A nice surprise, this is pretty good. altonbrownd (1953), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 5, 2009 Bottle from Russian bottle shop near Artis. Dark amber body with thin lasting head. Sweet, malty nose with notes of honey. Full-bodied taste. Sweetish. Almost brandy like. Smooth finish. Pretty good. jtodd5dot1 (32), Marina, California, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 4, 2009 I’m still trying to figure out these dark lagers. The color is dark red, almost brown with a light head that didn’t last too long. The flavor was smooth, and not over powering. Not much carbonation. Full flavor without some of the heaviness that you can get with IPAs and such. gorditoabd (174), San Diego, California, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Aug 1, 2009 Pours a nice, nearly opaque cola color with 2 fingers of off-white head. Metallic, bitter aroma is not overly inviting. Initial flavor is all carbonation, followed by something like a cross between anise and cabbage, or perhaps cabbage and anise. I’m not hating it, it’s interesting and fairly original. The metallic twinge hangs around throughout the entire experience, however, making this a just-okay offering. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Aug 1, 2009 This wasn’t a particularly fresh bottle but not matter - this beer was full of life and quite fresh. Perhaps more Vienna in appearance given the very clear light brown but otherwise a text book example of a Dunkel. The flavours are driven but some slightly over the top caramel malts; simple and maybe a touch sweet, but makes a plesant impact. travita (1941), Frisco, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 31, 2009 Reddish in color, clear, and has a beige colored head. The smell is slightly sweet, malts, corn, and ok. The taste is sweet, very sugary, some bread, wheat, and spices. Travlr (771), Washington, Washington DC, USA
