Strong malt, grain (rye?), caramel/toffee flavors with a suggestion of bitterness in the finish. I almost detect a hint of smokiness. Decent. Papsoe (14997), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Very malty and caramel-like with a pronounced sweetness and a rather limited hoppiness. Quite full-bodied and a pleasant surprise. Contains som rye-malt. 280204 OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Apr 26, 2005 Pours a transparent brown just a shade over copper. A tan head bubbles up but doesn’t stay too long. It does lace the edge of the glass though. Aroma is malt not too many hops in this. The flavor is mostly sweet malt maybe some dough or bread with a hint of caramel. The palate is a little light for a beer of this color. It seems a little watered down. If it were just a little heavier I’d score it much better but overall it was a drinkable dunkel. SoLan (1423), Orlando, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 24, 2005 Brown/amber. Big, frothy, off-white head. Can smell malt from half a yard away. When I stick my nose in the glass I get nothing, strange. Light/medium body. Easy drinking, a bit watery, "hint of grain and a slight bitterness" is a good description, also a little roastedness in the finish. Not bad, nothing impressive. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Apr 9, 2005 The aroma is almost identical to the doppleback I had last night. Must be me. A nice looking reddish colored beer with nice head for a couple of minutes. Flavor is very sweet but pleasant. Seemed to get a little thin late in the bottle. frankenkitty (1902), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 6, 2005 Here is one of Baltika’s good offerings, from a brewer that is fairly unpredictable. Bottle poured an orangey-brown beer with a fluffy tan head that held on as a thick film. Medium-bodied with soft carbonation. An all-malt aroma with a hint of baked pretzels. Caramel malt flavor with alcohol that, at times, seemed a little sour.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 4, 2005 Smells like a porter with caramel, but this "dark" beer is actually red in color. Absolutely no head. Can certainly taste the caramel, from the start to finish. It unfortunately has a heavy, "old" feeling to it though, which drags it down.
