Sweet, chocolate-malty aroma with some seawater. Sweet, nutty almond flavor with some serious burned-maltiness. Quite full-bodied, smooth but carbonated palate. A very enjoyable, sweetish and full-bodied dunkel. Emil (6074), Copenhagen, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jun 29, 2004 Dark red color with little and disappearing head. Very caramellic and nice chocolate aroma makes beer very tempting. Very malty and full bodied, aroma lies little bit of sweetness, there is only some of it in flavor. Roasted maltiness is cut nicely by bite of hops and carbonation. Leaves lasting roasted and bitter flavor to mouth. This beer was excellent, for my opinion Russians make fine dark beers compared to their pale lager ones. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 13, 2004 Clear, magenta color, highly carbonated, with a big, beige head, rocky, puffy, putting on quite a show until it slowly shifts.
Aroma is sweet and malty, hints of toffee and cocoa.
As for taste, sweetness starts off right away and never droops, becoming more caramelly throughout, though the body is very light. Texture is minimal, finish is tidy. Ends dryly in the mouth. Not a bad little dunkel lager at all, better than some for sure.
Surprisingly, I found that I hadn’t had this yet, and chose it to accompany Ukrainian meatballs at Karmancyk’s Russian Deli in NordEast Minneapolis for lunch today, and they met each other well.

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | May 25, 2004 Updated: Jul 15, 2005Bottled. Starts with a big frothy head that hangs around, atop a good amber body. Happy little "beer" smell, slightly better than your average "dark" beer. Taste is a little bit biscuity, but mouthfeel is somewhat watery. It’s labeled as "Original," so presumably this was the first style for this brand, but tellingly their advertising pushes the "3" pale lager. An alcohol burn sneaked up on me as I got to the bottom of my .5 l serving.
