Aroma is definitely roasted and malty with hints of dark fruits.
Flavor, fruity; prune, currants with possibly apple, some brown sugar and malts, light spices. Caramel profile is not dominant but a big part of the mouthfeel with a nice thin hoppy finish. Pitch black. Tall, fine, thick head. Not a strong aroma. Roasted malt, maybe a bit sweet but seems dry. Strong malt flavor. Very well roasted, very burnt. Quite sweet, with strong coffee taste. A bit too sweet for me, but loaded with flavor. Long-lasting burnt aftertaste, dry in the finish. Great malt taste. ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Oct 1, 2009 Dark brown with a lasting off-white head. Aroma of caramel and bready malt. Sweet chocolate and cocoa powder flavour shawnm213 (882), South Bend, Indiana, USA Sep 28, 2009 Bottle shared by phaleslu, Thanks Peter! Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Notes of roasted malts, malty gross coffee, malt balls, dark fruits, earth, and grain. Some light semen notes. Something about this was a little offputting. phaleslu (424), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Sep 28, 2009 Updated: Oct 21, 2009Bottle from The Party Source. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, malt, chocolate, dark fruits, sugar, and pinch of coffee grounds. The flavor follows suit, with more sweet malt and some caramel and alcohol. Medium-bodied, very smooth, and slightly syrupy. Roasty on the finish and in the aftertaste, also some alcohol. I tried this a little after the Utenos Porter and this is an improvement. I worried this would be crap after seeing another Baltika beer in a plastic bottle at the store, assuming this was just the big Russian brewer owned by a conglomerate; the last part may be true, but this was not bad at all. I’d go with an Okocim Porter over this, though. Dedollewaitor (3625), Odense, Denmark Sep 26, 2009 Bottle. Thank you Nightfall. Pours black with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is fruit, roast and chocolate. Smooth. Lots of dark fruits. Vaguely roasted and dry end. Tasty. Madsnp (610), Odense C, Denmark Sep 22, 2009 Bottle. Thanks Dolle! Pours deep reddish brown coloured with a small light brown coloured head. Aromas of coffee, licorice, caramel and some alcohol. Flavours of sweet malt, caramel, dark fruit and chocolate. A decent brew. Well done Carlsberg..
