| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 20, 2008 Bottle. Dark color, nearly black but clear. Large billowy, brown head. Complex malty aroma, semi grainy, some alcohol, touch of chocolate and soap? A rich yet clean flavor profile. Resembles a schwarzbier for me. Kind of lager like, but very complex. Lighter than expected body. Low carbonatin. Good. durhambeer (1200), Durham, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 17, 2008 I’m pretty sure I bought this bottle for $1.99, so that alone is worth a few points in the rating... black pour and generous foamy tan head, though it doesn’t last very long. Roasty coffee/caramel aromas with hint of chocolate. More of the same on the palate with a little bit of hops kicking in. A little sweet, perhaps, but a very solid beer. Definitely a good deal. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Dark and rich. A note of coffee plays nicely with its little cousin burnt toast. A bit hoppy towards the end, but the aftertaste comes in with just bread and alcohol. illidurit (873), Santa Cruz, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 16, 2008 Poured into a nonic. Color is as close to black as it can get while still being visibly brown. Strong light evidences this by revealing umber hues at the bottom of the glass. The one finger head dissipates rather quickly, leaving no lace.
Aroma is strongly chocolaty, with a hint of alcohol. There’s also a little bit of sweetened coffee.
Taste is a let down after the nice aroma. Roasty cold coffee with maybe a smidgeon of bitter chocolate and metallicness. I’m surprised I don’t taste any alcohol here because there really isn’t much for it to hide behind.
Mouthfeel is a little overcarbonated, but very clean and dry. Body is too thin for a baltic porter. This is pretty easy to drink but it’s not a great beer. BellsFan (47), Michigan, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 2, 2008 Dark brown with a light brown head. First Russian beer I’ve had. Great flavor with a uniques aftertaste. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Dark heavy porter with almost sickly sweet malt and low carbonation but the finish is smooth and deceptively easy to drink for such a strong alcohol content.
Good beer. troopie (862), USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 26, 2008 Demi-litre bottle. Poured boot polish black with a thick, fast dissipating head. Little lacing. Full aroma of carames. malt and candy. Medium malty body with medium mouth and a light malty finish. Tastes lower in alcohol than it is. gunhaver (1025), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Updated: Jun 5, 2008Bottle. Pours a very dark brown. Some red highlights here and there, but very dark. Huge light-caramel colored head, with brief, cotton-like lacing. Aroma is sweet malts, vanilla, roasted chocolate. Flavor is pretty varied. Caramel, chocolate, bark, toffee, licorice. A watery aftertaste that almost distracts from the flavor. Sticky, soft body. Well-balanced, and one of the easier Baltic porters to drink. Definitely enjoyable.
