holdenn (1432), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 7, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a tall frothy beige head. Nose is light but malty. With chocolate, dried fruits, and dough. Lightly bitter chocolate is the first flavor with raisins, malt, grain, and molasses. A smooth creaminess balances out the dry bitterness. Decent baltic porter. mcnally (114), Burbank, California, USA Nov 6, 2007 Pitch black pour with fully diminishing tan head. Don’t remember the aroma too much, but the flavor is strong malt and alcohol. Minimal roast. Alcohol overpowers the other notes of the beer. Thin to moderate oily palate. goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA Nov 6, 2007 Poured a clear very dark brown to black color with a creamy beige head. Fruity and roasted malt aroma. Light smoke and licorice. The flavor had notes of dark fruit and short mild caramel. Hints of cocoa. medium body and semi-dry. Quake1028 (633), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 4, 2007 16.9oz bottle. Body appears light brown when being poured but settles into a dense dark brown with a creamy, 2 finger sized mocha colored head. Head is fully lasting and leaves very good lacing once it vanishes. Upon pouring a huge malty scent fills the air. Also get some notes of raisins, fusels, bitter chocolate and roasted beans. Fore is roasted beans, espresso, milk and bitter dark chocolate, malts and brown sugar. A bit thin bodied, medium astringency. Creamy palate. Bitter roasty finish, medium length. Folds into an annoying sweetness that knocks the score down a bit. Not bad at all, just not exceptional in any way. Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Nov 1, 2007 Dirty dark brown-black with tan ring. Aroma is milk chocolate, roasted coffee and malts. Flavor is almost cloyingly sweet...but layered with molasses, dark brown sugar, milk chocolate and weak coffee. Drying finish. robforbes (1083), Bremerton, Washington, USA Oct 30, 2007 got this beer at red apple in bremerton, washington.
pours opaque with a small khaki head, good lacing.
faint smell that is cocoa, roasted malt, brown sugar.
taste is sweet, milk chocolate, touch of coffee, slightly bitter, leaves the mouth on the dry side. JamesD (192), Centreville, Virginia, USA Oct 29, 2007 Pours a jet black with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt and chocolate, a little yeasty. The flavor is roasty, with dark chocolate and enough bitterness. Their is kind of a sticky feeling that I didn’t like too much, I wish it were a bit cleaner. It’s a decent porter, and not too expensive. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 22, 2007 Bottle - 500ml. Opaque black body with low carbonation and a thick beige foamy head. Good malty/hoppy aroma with roasted coffee and dark chocolate hints. Taste is very well balanced. It carries these same chocolate and coffeeish notes as the aroma, hides the alcohol pretty well, and ends with a decent bittersweet, warming finish. This is probably the only product from Baltika that deserves any attention.
