Commercial Description:
A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

Bottle. Dark, dark, dark. This is black with a tan head. Very lightly carbonated. Chocolate and raisins both in the nose and on the tongue. Tastes a little thin. Has an interesting sweet, dry finish.

So this is a baltic porter? Blah. Not a favorite. Aroma of strong licorice and alcohol. Pour was a pitch black with a one finger tan head. Taste was very licorice like which I hate. Heavy dark fruits and coffee in the background. This is too strong and taste is too dark for me.

Pours dark brwon with a tan head. Smells of raisins, some chocolate, touches of pepper. Tastes slightly bitter with chocolate winning out over coffee. Hints of dark fruit and toffee emerge as the beer warms. Mouthfeel is oily with some tingly earthy sensations. Finish is sweet. One of the better Russian beers I’ve had.

One of the best Russian beers out there. BIg, rich, and creamy. Smooth finish with a sweet warm alcohol undercurrent. Lots of roasted malt notes. A great full bodied beer.

Bottle; pours an opaque dark brown body with light brown head. Chocolate malt aroma with slight hints of alcohol and roasted malts. Smooth, light-medium body, but not watery at all. Roasted coffee malt flavors with slight carbonation. Finishes clean with an alcoholic bite.

Bottle. Clear deep dark brown pour with a small dark tan head and good lacing. Roasted coffee and bittersweet chocolate aroma. Well balanced flavors with slightly bitter coffee, chocolate and a hint of caramel. The mouthfeel is a tad thin but the beer finishes with a roasty though somewhat oddly bitter flourish. Worth another bottle.

Bottle. I was at a Russian rock show so I thought this would be appropriate to drink there. This beer is definitely one of the best Baltikas out there.

9/5/07 From the bottle. Aroma is dried fruit forward with caramel, toffee, and milk chocolate. Appearance is dark brown with a tan head. Flavor is fruity malt forward with notes of plum. Unfortunately, this is balanced with an objectionable tart and alcoholic note that mars these positives. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a low texture and carb feel. Overall, this is not a bad beer, but it just has a weird finish.
