19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Aug 7, 2007 Updated: Aug 21, 2007Originally reviewed back on 7/2/04. Received 3.6 score. Added to my RB list to check "Russia" as a beer country consumed. A rich sweet porter with notes of coffee and chocolate. Sturdy head. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Aug 4, 2007 Bottle. Moderate roasted malts, grassy hops and doughy yeast aromas up front with ruby port and vanilla in the background. Large, light brown, rocky head with great lacing that hung around for the whole glass, color is black in poor lighting. Flavor starts and finishes moderately sweet. Medium bodied, creamy texture with lively carbonation and a slight metallic finish. A flavorful beer with some really nice aromas. degrassi (30), cypress, California, USA Aug 2, 2007 Picked up a bottle because it was on the cheap. I’m not a fan of tasting the alcohol in my beer, and that’s what you get here. For less than $2 a bottle however, this is something you can enjoy after drinking a better tasting beer. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Aug 1, 2007 Updated: Aug 3, 200716.9 oz. bottle. Pours what appears to be very dark brown, but is actually dark ruby red in the light. Medium beige head fades quickly. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruits. The flavor has nice roasted malts, light milk chocolate, plums and other dark fruits, and light bitterness. Medium bodied. This is extremely drinkable and the price per oz. is one of the best (less than $2 per bottle). Not quite The Duck Rabbit, but... muenster (339), Sevierville, Tennessee, USA Aug 1, 2007 Bottle. Pours dark ruby with a thick tan head. Aroma is roasty, with some definite sweetness. Flavor is roasty sweet, just like the aroma, but strange medicinal cough syrupy qualities start coming though with the noticeable alcohol, and detract from what would otherwise be a solid porter. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Jul 28, 2007 16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown, not quite black, with a rich, creamy tan head that lasted until about mid-glass. Light but pleasant aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and alcohol. Slightly sweet flavor of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel followed by some hops bitterness and alcohol. As the beer warms, the alcohol flavor becomes quite strong and really overwhelms this beer. A bit thin with a surprisingly strong alcohol burn for a beer with 7% abv. This is a style I typically enjoy, however, this beer came up short. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Jul 22, 2007 Poured a dark brownish-black color with a bubbly tan head that faded into almost nothing. Pretty sweet and dark malty aroma. A full range of sweet maltiness and some roasted bitterness. Hints of raisin, honey, and maybe a tiny bit of blueberry. Medium to heavy body with a good amount of slick mouth-coating sugariness. Great stuff, especially considering the price. I’ll definitely drink this again... puggy211 (576), cordova, Tennessee, USA Jul 20, 2007 bottle, caramel, roasty, chocolate, alcohol, raisin, black, clear, medium sweetness, lightly bitter, lightly sour, medium body, creamy, soft carbonation, very nice beer.
