Sep 24, 2006 Bottle. Pours black with a moderate beige head. Aroma is roasty, nutty, a bit of dark chocolate, and a hint of caramel and dark fruit. Flavor is also quite roasty, but otherwise much bolder and less sweet. Fairly bitter both initially and in the finish, with a bit of tanginess at the beginning, and some nuttiness, chocolate, yeast, and slightly sweet malt in the middle. Gets sweeter as it warms. Mouthfeel is very odd: Manages to be simultaneously creamy and grainy, plus a dry astringency. This is pretty good on the whole, although I’m not sure the unusual mouthfeel is quite to my liking.

Sep 21, 2006 Average porter at best. Very simple and plain. Poured dark with thin head. Smelled like dirt and smoke. Tasted like coffee and sweet fruits. Seems like the porter is generic.

Sep 7, 2006 bottle given to me by a man i don’t know wearing a big furry hat and had a mustache. alright I bought it at the store. black/maple pour with tan head. roasted malt, chocolate, hop aroma. sugar, caramel, roasted, nutty, alcohol. light to medium body. this beer becomes sweeter as it warms. the crystal clear water really makes this beer average.

Sep 2, 2006 Bottle (500ml). Dark ruby-brown with a massive tan foamy head - not a gusher, but it foamed out of the bottle. Roasty nutty aroma, sweet and dark. Taste is quite bitter - roast nutty malt, some chocolate and yeast, quite a bitter finish, nutshell. Thick, oily body, sort of still, long creamy malty finish - pretty decent porter, wish we could get it regularly

Sep 1, 2006 1pint, 9oz. bottle. 7% ABV Black with a bubbley dark tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Uhm, kinda a tangy start, malt sweetness. Finishes in a coffee grinder residue aftertaste. Medium texture, very warming (alc?) The only way this beer scores as high as it does is from the color and smell. After that its waste. Those poor Russians must not know any better...

Aug 29, 2006 Pours to a deep ruby body with a lasting thick fluffy tan head. The aroma is dusty/yeasty malt. The flavor is dry coffee, tart corny lagering, not exciting nor good. The palate is medium bodied and overly warming, dusty and fizzy feel. I’m not understanding this beer at all. Seems to be a mess.

Aug 28, 2006 Meh. They’ve got a new, classy, more Western label. Boozy porter roast aroma + lager corn shoe, gum (old) malty hangover implied. Deep browny with tight tan head. Alcohol is most detectable flavor, some roast, mainly just a lagery beer flavor tht’s slightly browned. alcy, odd finish. No, I don’t really enjoy it that much, but it’s not as terrible as my review probably makes it sound.
