pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Apr 3, 2006 Pours a dark red black with an ephemeral tan head. The aroma is the strongpoint of this brew sweet vanilla and caramel with a hint of bitterness and hops. The mouthfeel is creamy, yet it seems slightly acidic and abrasive. It’s a confusing combination, but it works for a higher gravity porter like this. There’s a gentle malty sweetness to this brew, and then there is a bitter hop and roasty note. The alcohol really brings out these more abrasive flavors, and yet the sweetness accentuates the vanilla/caramel notes. Charcoal really lingers on the palate. This is a pretty complicated beer, but not half bad. JohnnyOS (646), Golden, Wisconsin, USA Apr 1, 2006 Pours black with light tan head that fades quickly. Aroma of dark chocolate and molasses with roasted malt. Smooth, very smooth with a well developed flavor. Tastes of malted dark chocolate molasses coffee. Barely discernable alcohol presence. An excellent Porter in my opinion. DerBiermeister (503), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Mar 23, 2006 I really can’t think of anything to complain about with this one. It is one of the best porters I’ve had. It was so very pleasant. I like the 7% ABV, and that it gives you a little over a pint. It is a dark, blackish brown with smoothness going down. Mmm, kudos to Baltika. GreatLibations (1440), Last Supper, Arizona, USA Mar 22, 2006 Opaque, coffee brown color w/ a "maltine" cracker nose. Smells like malted saltine crackers. Pours full nectar. Minimal froth w/ ample residual effers. Flavors are bright and squeeky clean. Warming flavors of coffee, hay, bread, desiccated cherry, leather with just a touch of sweetness. A silky smooth texture, with a long finish. Very complex and well ballanced. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall; a fantastic specimen. Highly recommended. mephisto (1144), Taiwan Mar 16, 2006 dark brown with brown head. malty and creamy, this is one smooth drinking brew! RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Mar 11, 2006 This beer has a mild aroma consisting of the fragrances of malt, yeast, and caramel. It is a brown solution with a light brown head and good lacing. This moderately thin bodied beer is dry and a tad bitter. The nutty caramel taste gives way to a sour nut finish. zhora (4), Kyiv, Ukraine does not count Mar 11, 2006 Excellent porter with brilliant aftertaste. Be sure to buy one that bottled in St. Petersburg. bmanning (142), Arlington, Virginia, USA Feb 25, 2006 Pours a coca-cola brown with a large, light brown head. Has a strong, malty aroma with lots of molasses, dates, coffee, caramel, almond, and floral hops. The flavor is initially sweet and thin, but has a delicous bitter and smoky finish. The finish is by far the best feature of this beer - very complex with plenty of dark fruits, chocolate, and licorice. It feels too thin on the palate, and has a watery texture, although it is somewhat creamy. Overall, this is a pretty good porter, not great, but I’d try it again.
