ratman197 (3139), Arvada, Colorado, USA Dec 30, 2005 1/2 liter bottle poured a clear, dark reddish black with a lasting tan head. Aromas of raisins, figs, and molasses. Palate was light and smooth. Flavors of molasses, toffee, and figs with a smooth, lingering finish. tauruslw33 (68), Erie, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 28, 2005 Baltika 6 Porter poured with a very large brown foam. The foam smelled and tasted like milk chocolate. The beer was black with no light showing through it. This is the darkest beer I have ever had. There was little carbonation in the beer itself. Taste is definitely a coffee/chocolate/fruit (with fruit being the least). I can even say it reminds me of a dry wine to some point. This is an extremely creamy beer with plenty of body. The aftertaste was VERY slightly bitter, more than half the bitterness as the American beers. The number 6 is definitely worth buying. I don’t think I can compare this beer to any American made dark....but I am a novice, and am new to the dark porters. This is still a great buy. thedm (3833), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Dec 27, 2005 This bottled brew poured a large sized head of foamy fine to large sized mostly lasting brown colored bubbles that left behind a good lacing. The body contained no visible carbonation, was opaque and dark brown in color. Its aroma contained notes of brown malt dark malt . Its mouth feel is smooth vinous malt with a palate and a smooth aftertaste. Its flavor contained roasted dark malts notes and was tasty. All-in-all very nice brew. stouby (1932), Holbaek, Denmark Dec 19, 2005 Bottle, at No. 5 (031103).
Dark brown. Aroma moderate to heavy malty (burnt). Flavor moderate sweet, light bitter. rsmeds (220), Turku, Finland Dec 15, 2005 Bottled. Enjoyed from tea cup.
Half-opauqe very dark brown, with short-lived brown bubbly head. Looks like coffee.
Very malty, sweetish roasted aroma with chocolate, cold coffee (and mämmi).
Surprisingly little alcohol in aroma.
Flavor reflects aroma, albeit with the addition of a healthy dose of hops.
Avg carbonation, palate a bit too acidic for my taste.
Quite light for a porter, but not bad at all. The best russian dark beer I’ve found so far. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Dec 4, 2005 bottle. Pours black with an even light tan head. Noticeable alcohol in the nose, but it blends quite well with the very sweet roastiness which has a strangely vinous quality. Really dense caramel malts give this a scotch ale quality. There’s a bit of coffee too, but it’s like old stale coffee. The sweet foundation is the most prominent thing and does well to balance any bitterness in this brew. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA Dec 3, 2005 Had this in Kyrgyzstan this summer. Pours a nice black. Aromas of heavy malts, chocolate and maybe a little fruit?? Bitter chocolate taste with some coffee coming through. Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA Dec 2, 2005 Updated: Jul 9, 2009A lager yeast fermented porter. The nose a touch of sweetened Cuban coffee and no hops to speak of. ANise kissed toffee adornes the palate in a very soft fashion that leaves a defined sweetness in its wake. Balanced enough, a little sweet for some. A favorite of mine, especially for the price. Although I like this beer all year long, is nice to have a dark strong porter that can be enjoyed when the weather is warmer. 90
