mik82 (34), England Sep 29, 2005 Dark, almost opague with tan head. Strong malty aroma. Lovely chocolate/coffee taste. Have good memories of this from a trip to Russia when I was 15. Found it again in a Russian delicatessen in Fulham, London (now closed). Bottle stored in fridge with dried fish so smelt horrid but beer was unharmed! slang (392), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Sep 29, 2005 Black and opaque. Decent, tan head. Smells malty, fruity (prunes), & a little alcohol. Bubbly, with a choc. sweet, candy thing. Good yeast used here. Not very porter-esk, esp. w/ a slight singe, despite only 7%. Complx thou. cheap too ($2.20) Maybe even stouty or dopplebock-ish :) ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Sep 28, 2005 black color. roasted malty flavor. a little thin for a porter, but still its really easy to drink. creamy and just down right good. somethign id drink again if i saw it on the shelves. JoshuaB (422), Detroit, Michigan, USA Sep 16, 2005 Thick and rich black with a nice layer of creamy tan head. Aroma is mad malts, barley, and some raisins. Taste is more of the same, with some roastiness and dark fruits added. Begins bitter, then sweet, and rounds out to be nice and smooth at the finish. A bit more complexity and some bottle conditioning, and this beer would be perfect. Still very solid, especially considering $1.69 for a pint. FlacoAlto (2473), Tucson, Arizona, USA Sep 12, 2005 Updated: Sep 26, 2005Pours with a thick, creamy two-finger thick brown head that sits atop an opaque black beer. The aroma smells of chocolate, and lightly roasted coffee; overall the aroma is fairly subdued. The taste is sweet and creamy up front with a sharp, slightly acidic, roasted note in the finish. The beer has a medium full body that just starts to coat the mouth. This beer is quite drinkable, smooth and creamy it goes down quite easily. There is a lingering burnt note that sticks around long after the beer has left my mouth; this is not a bad thing though, more like a lingering roast coffee note. This beer is quite tasty, though it not as complex and deeply layered as many other examples of the style.

dyetube (397), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 11, 2005 This beer is very dark almost black in color with little to no head. it has a roasty chocolaty flavor with very little hop taste. this beer is very mild and quite drinkable! I liked this beer and is one of the better porters out there. cheers! OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Sep 11, 2005 16.9oz bottle - Pours very dark brown almost black with a tall creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate malts, some roasted nuts and a touch of molasses and brown sugar. Flavor is quite sweet, chocolate, caramel, molassess, some brown sugar. Palate is medium bodied smooth and creamy but very sweet. Some nice roastiness is there too but this was just a little sugary for a baltic porter to me. But for $1.49 a pint not bad at all. Retorp (2154), Tampa, Florida, USA Sep 9, 2005 Updated: May 2, 2006Sweet malts and a bit of molasses, but also something adjuncty in the smell. Deep black with a three finger thick head. Looked lovely in a tulip glass. Nice steady release of gas and the head is as creamy and fluffy as you could ever hope for. Burnt dates is the dominant flavor with ample alcohol notes. It’s not very big flavor wise even though burnt flavors tend to dominate a palate this one does not. It feels so good though and looks so perfect you want to fogive the lack of big flavor.
