Nov 2, 2006 Medium beige head. Very deep dark red, barely translucent body in the middle. Sweet licorice aroma with roasty and faint vanilla aroma notes. Deep, roasty, licorice taste. Clean, oily and smooth, thinnish body, very industrial. Dryish, licorice aftertaste. Somewhat acidic grain. Quite good. (0.5l bottle.)

Apr 19, 2005 In the pint bottle. Pours a reddish brown black color with a light brown head. Little or no aroma. Something of a smoked salmon flavor with decent chocolate overtones. A fairly decent mid-range body.

Jul 3, 2005 Bottle. Molasses and chocolate malt aroma. Dark black-brown colow with no head. Molasses and walnut flavor - slightly bitter finish. Tasty - stands up well to other porters but can’t really expound as this was my first beer in this style.

Nov 9, 2004 Bottle. Dark beer with a big creamy tan head. Aroma isn’t much - some malt and maybe some chocolate. Rich chocolate malt flavor that lingers. Body is just a little light - but not bad. Alcohol just makes a presence. Very easy to drink and enjoyable.

Oct 22, 2007 Pours a black color with a thin beige head. Good aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, it’s somewhat lactic. Good flavor of chocolate and roasted malt with a mild lactic presence. While having the same elements, the flavor is less interesting than the aroma, it finishes astringent and bitter. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation.

Feb 11, 2008 Aroma is heavy chocolate with some roasted malts and light hops with some nutmeg, brown sugar and a dash of soy sauce. Pours with a large brown head that covers an extremely dark brown body (practically black). Taste is for the choclate lovers, it is extremely sweet throughout with lots ’o chocolate! There is a pretty decent alcohol presence. Creamy body and lively carbonation round out this suprisingly good Russian brew.
