Pours with a thick, creamy two-finger thick brown head that sits atop an opaque black beer. The aroma smells of chocolate, and lightly roasted coffee; overall the aroma is fairly subdued. The taste is sweet and creamy up front with a sharp, slightly acidic, roasted note in the finish. The beer has a medium full body that just starts to coat the mouth. This beer is quite drinkable, smooth and creamy it goes down quite easily. There is a lingering burnt note that sticks around long after the beer has left my mouth; this is not a bad thing though, more like a lingering roast coffee note. This beer is quite tasty, though it not as complex and deeply layered as many other examples of the style.

Bottle. I admit I was less than thrilled to drink this, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a cross between a bad lager and a bad N/A, but it was anything but that. Pours a thick, opaque black with an aroma of molasses and licorice. The taste follows suit with the aroma, with the added bonus of a hint of chocolate. All in all, not a bad beer but nothing to write home about.

1pint, 9oz. bottle. 7% ABV Black with a bubbley dark tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Uhm, kinda a tangy start, malt sweetness. Finishes in a coffee grinder residue aftertaste. Medium texture, very warming (alc?) The only way this beer scores as high as it does is from the color and smell. After that its waste. Those poor Russians must not know any better...

Bottle from Market Street Wineshop Downtown Charlottesville. Reddish brown pour with a large head. Good retention and alcing. Big roasted malt aroma with caramel notes. Sweet, fruity and sligtly bitter taste. The roasted malt comes through as well. Thick mouthfeel.

Well here ya go - this has got to be the very best 99 cent bottle of Russian beer that I've bought! Black body topped with a generous cocoa head. Great palate - seemed like I was drinking a lightly carbonated chocolate milk mixed with some strong espresso. Also some plum cherry in the taste.

A very nice beer, this one poured a dark brown/black color with a touch of mahogany red edges. The head was substantial but short-lived. Lacing was persistent for the duration of consumption. Flavor was initially malty sweet (touch of molasses and caramel) with noticeable alcohol. Then it turned slightly bitter with a grassy finish. The aftertaste (only) was somewhat reminiscent of Warsteiner’s dunkel, but the heart of this beer and flavor was pretty solid. I’ll return to this one someday - not a bad price for a decent amount of flavor.
