Pours a deep brown with a nice tan, rocky head that was gone pretty fast. A tinge of red around the rim of my glass shows that this wasnt the darkest of all baltic porters out there. Roasty, slightly sour aroma when cold. As it warmed, a subtle smokey note came through. very nice! Full body, slightly chewey palate. flavors of dark malts, chocolate, smoke and dusty esters. Long chocolate finish with a tinge of smoke. Very complex and I really enjoyed this one. phishpond417 (1953), Madison, Wisconsin, USA

Deep black, creamy lasting tan head. Nose is full of golden raisins, plums, malted milk chocolate, caramel, anise, and a hint of roasted coffee. Has something about it that even says Belgian. Flavor almost matches to a T, but there is a bit of brown sugar and rum noted as well. Medium to full-bodied, silky, somewhat vinous, chocolate coffee finish. You go Russia! | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 1, 2003 Black bodied with a small chocolate head. Nearly divine, plummy, vinous aroma, potent, but artfully balanced. Carmel, plum, and a strong molasses body make this baltic porter a winner. The greatest knock is a nearly cloying alchoholic sweetness resulting from the relative lightness of the body which could use a more robust character to anchor the flavors. An excellent, almost insurpassable, dessert beer. Sweet and tasty--though becomes almost unbearably sweet towards the end with a strong banana component. Best if enjoyed in small glasses. altonbrownd (1943), Amsterdam, Netherlands
