I was only slightly let down by this dark watery porter. Big anice and sweet malts were the main notes overall. There is an odd aftertaste, but it may be the same carboard/grainy hops used in some of the other Baltikas. RAYBOY01 (1869), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 3, 2006 Probably THE best Baltica in the production line-up. Burnt brown sugar/molasses/dates/smoke. Some decently hopped bitterness on top of the whole thing. Very impressive from a disappointing brewery. DrnkMcDermott (1865), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 25, 2004 Bottled. Probably the beer to get when you’re in Russia. Nice maple smell, and pours with a notably brown rocky head. Has some good coffee roast malt notes, and then maple, and a little bit of honey, come back as you sip. In fact, it almost has some barley wine character that makes it well worth picking up. Beer2000 (1852), Kristiansand, Norway
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2008 500 ml bottle. Dark brown, close to black body with a small beige head. Aroma is light roasted malt, dry fruit and coffee. Flavor is roasted malt, coffee, dry fruit and a sweet alcoholic warming. Rather nice. Pour was a pitch black with a one finger tan head. Taste was very licorice like which I hate. Heavy dark fruits and coffee in the background. This is too strong and taste is too dark for me. oldrtybastrd (1846), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 3, 2005 Had this in Kyrgyzstan this summer. Pours a nice black. Aromas of heavy malts, chocolate and maybe a little fruit?? Bitter chocolate taste with some coffee coming through. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Sep 10, 2004 Pours a very jet black with a nice size tan head. Aroma is very weak and the flavor is weak as well. You get some coffee and chocolate in there but nothing that knocks you off your chair. Good look to this one but it is low on flavor. There I was walking on the corner of Pike and Broadway, and there’s this damned metal grate on the ground. Well this being Seattle and all, of course it was raining. So, I slipped on this grate, the bottle somehow tore its way out of the bag, and hit the ground. I almost fell on my ass as well. The cap loosened and beer squirted all over me and every where else. So I decided to open it up and sample it right there next to the Blockbuster.
Dark brown with a large creamy head. Roast aromas with some chocolate and caramel. Maybe some mocha. Anise floats about in the flavor and aroma. The flavors do a good job of mimicing the aroma, but the hops and mocha come out a bit more. Thick and creamy body, with a sweet malty finish.
