Quite a handsome beer to look at deepest ,darkest garnet..nice tan head..that goes quite fast..leaves beautiful lacing down the glass.
The aroma is mostly of toasted malts..with a nice alcohol undertow.
Taste is sweet for a mega second after it hits the tongue..then a nice treacle like semi-bitterness..almost liquorice like..then a different bitter after taste ( hops?)..nice alcohol warming.
Very nice in the mouth, invigorating.
I found this to be a very drinkable Baltic..my favourite style after all.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 5, 2005 16.9oz bottle. 62° out of the cellar. Served in a pint glass. Dark brown/black color with red tints and a small tan head. The aroma is roasty with some definate fruitness coming from the hops. Smells good, but a bit weak. The taste is roasty malt that transitions into a nice hops flavor with a touch of bitterness. The hops taste citrusy. The finish is dry and roasty, with an almost espresso quality. It seems to lack the lactic flavor that seems to be present in most baltic porters, instead it seems like a regular american porter with a good helping of hops. The mouthfeel is big, but not too big, and is about average for the style. This is a good beer that blows its sibling, #4, out of the water. alexsdad06 (1081), Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 1, 2007 Updated: Aug 3, 200716.9 oz. bottle. Pours what appears to be very dark brown, but is actually dark ruby red in the light. Medium beige head fades quickly. The aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, and dark fruits. The flavor has nice roasted malts, light milk chocolate, plums and other dark fruits, and light bitterness. Medium bodied. This is extremely drinkable and the price per oz. is one of the best (less than $2 per bottle). Not quite The Duck Rabbit, but... barleyPops (1079), Quad-Cities, Illinois, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 15, 2004 Deep brown body on w/a light beige head. Lightly chocolatey and roasty, but roasty comes through more as it warms. Lightly green apple, caramel, & hints of banana ester & alcohol. Flavor is well balanced, lightly banana fruity, chocolatey, w/ a semi sweet finish, and lightly roasty aftertaste. Some toasty malt. Lighter body, not quite watery, but higher carbonation, well hidden alcohol. Unfortunately thin on flavor. I just had the Sinebrychoff porter, and this pales in comparison.
