Aroma is chocolate and light roastyness. Flavour is a bit waterish but still pleasant. Smooth chocolate notes. Alcahol totally hidden. Ends up with a mild bitterness. Miss some of the heavy action, you see in other examples of style. MoritzF (4954), Bochum, Germany
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 31, 2008 (bottle) Clear, dark, almost black coloured hue with a ruby shine and a thick beige foamy head. Sweet, dark and roast-malty aroma with caramel, cacao and liquorice. Sweet and bitter flavour, almost full bodied with a calm and smooth carbonation. Roasty malty taste with chocolate, liquorice and traces of coffee; bitter-sweet and burnt malty finish with notes of alcohol and a moderate length. Not overly fine and a tad too sweet Porter but anyway a pretty quaffable one (18.08.08). Cornfield (4944), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 16, 2004 This pours deep brown, almost black, into the glass with a minimal brown head. Has a sweet malt aroma with a hint of hops bitterness hitting my nose as I back away from the glass. Medium-bodied, it carries a hint of toffee, anise, and a bit of coffee in the taste. Sweet taste. Michael Jackson (the beer guy, not the creepy pop music fellow) says this is in the top 500 great beers. I say it’s "okay," and I’m the guy currently drinking it. Earthy grains and light fruit in the aroma. Fortified light wine, sorghum, and malt mixture. I envision this being reduced and poured over corn bread. jbrus (4872), Delft, Netherlands

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 28, 2004 Dark black color with a nice large tan head that's very retentive and excellent lacing. The aroma is nicely roasted with some milky sweet chocolate notes and some light bittering hops. The flavor is creamy with some mocha flavors but a little too astringent with the dark malts, almost seems like not enough alcohol to balance the amount of malts in this. Baltic porters are great in the 9+% range and this one would be too I imagine. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England

Dark chocolate, licorice and dried prunes dominate. Maybe a touch of balsamic vinegar. Sweetish edge, but not too sticky. Rather light bodied. Quite impressed.
