Commercial Description:
A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

Bottled, BB 4.28.07. Poured clear, deeper cola brown with a nice initial cap of caramel head that recedes to a thin layer after a couple minutes. Aroma picked up drier, artificially-sweetened dark chocolates, molasses, some dark fruit, and an overall level of roast near burnt... decent. Flavor began with heavier, almost resiney burnt coffee and molasses malts... dark chocolate and sweetener emerge toward the middle, with a moderate-high level of coffee bitterness... sweet, burnt finish leaves chocolate and mild bitterness. Fills out decently on the palate.. a tad tacky at times. OK brew.

Poured a clear very dark brown to black color with a creamy beige head. Fruity and roasted malt aroma. Light smoke and licorice. The flavor had notes of dark fruit and short mild caramel. Hints of cocoa. medium body and semi-dry.

Many thanks to Gary, Old Faithful for picking these up in Louisville. True to its porter/imperial stoutish roots, this pours a dark colour with a mocha head. It has above average carbonation and a drop of sourness, all superceded by great balance. There is mocha and fruit in the nose. A medium mouthfeel. A chocolate finish.

Bottle (500ml). Dark ruby-brown with a massive tan foamy head - not a gusher, but it foamed out of the bottle. Roasty nutty aroma, sweet and dark. Taste is quite bitter - roast nutty malt, some chocolate and yeast, quite a bitter finish, nutshell. Thick, oily body, sort of still, long creamy malty finish - pretty decent porter, wish we could get it regularly

Initial big head but later all was left was big bubble rings . Aroma is the strongest side of this beer, from sweet apple-orange fruits followed by chocolate and ending with dark malt. Heavy, rich malt, burned roastiness. Interesting approach to Baltic porter style...

Dark black eclipse color. Small to medium sized head. Aroma is chocolate, nutty and sweet. A light to medium bodied Baltic porter. Malts are fruity, nutty and sweet. Touches of raisins with a little banana. Nice malt character, somewhat sweet but perhaps a little thin and lacking in body. Nice balance. Smooth taste. Much better than I expected this one to be. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

July 2006 Bottle. Following Michigan Brewers Festival 2006. Bottle. Black body with a good sized creamy tan head. Very lightly roasty, sweet malty aroma. Sweet malty flavour has pleasant cocoa and fruit notes. Average palate is a touch thin but works. A nice Baltic porter. 6-7/4/7/3/15-16 - 3.5<P> April 2004 Bottle. Dark not quite black ruby brown colour pours with a large effervescent tan head. Aroma is of alcoholic coffee with hint of chocolate. Flavour has mildy roasty quality to it with notes of sweet toffee. Body seems light at first sip but has a pleasant medium weight mouthfeel afterwards. Finish has slight bitter astringency to it. Alcohol is warming in the throat but not overwhelming on the tongue. 6/4/7/3/15 - 3.5

Bottle. SR liquors. Pours a dark brown body with a thin head. Aroma is malt, smoke, caramel, and sweet malt. Flavor is that but there is a very thin body thats rather unsatisfying. A nice drying sensation finishes this one off.
