Nose is sweet maltiness with some dark chocolate. The flavor adds a bit more complexity with some licorice, caramel and dried fruit. Prune like in a good way. Good sippin’ porter! | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 1/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 21, 2008 Wow, this stuff was unexpectedly good. Has some characteristics of an imperial stout, yet not quite as hoppy as said impy. Very creamy with a strong dark fruit presence and strong, lingering tar about the mouth. Not overly complex, but strong characters are present nevertheless. Not world-class, but very good. jeff789 (422), Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 9, 2009 Pours a deep deep brown with a thin tan head that leaves ok retention... Aroma of licorice, roasted malts, not overly sweet aroma at all... Flavor of some green herbs, slightly roasty, sweet candy like flavor, note of licorice, dark fruits, cherry, faint tartness, subtly complex... Medium bodied, medium mouthfeel, good beer, less full than i expected HughConway (367), Washington, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 22, 2008 I’ve just poured a 22oz bottle into my big beer glass, and I must say, I wasn’t expecting this to be that good, but I was surprised. Very nice chocalatey aroma with a flavor to match. Also has some sweetness to it. Very nice! BeerChaser0078 (379), Melbourne, Australia
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 7, 2009 Bottle. Very dark ruby pour with a creamy beige head that lasts a while. Slightly sweet aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate and licorice. Flavour is just about the same but with a hint of coffee as well. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a slightly sweet finish balanced by some late bitterness. Alcohol is noticeable but not offputting. Overall a very nice Baltic porter, leaning more towards the sweet side but very pleasant nonetheless. drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 5, 2003 EXTREMELY dry roasted grain throughout every ounce of this beer. Somehow this tastes like Russia. I can almost feel the boiling of Chernobyl in my asophogus and the bread lines leading to my belly. Very mouth filling, covers every inch of the palate; however, the finish is a touch thin and the complete lack of anything sweet makes me a touch ancy. Good though. jasonp (1513), Sterling/Dulles, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 20, 2005 Pours a clear black (dark ruby when held up to light) with a thick, beige head. Sweet caramel and roastiness in the nose. Pleasantly sweet with a strong presence of caramel then comes notes of roasted malt, chocolate and coffee. Some roasty, hoppy bitterness shows up in the finish. Alcohol content very well hidden. Medium bodied with a very smooth texture and moderate, fine beaded carbonation - quite appropriate for the style. Enjoyable.
