Flavor is quite delicate and complex, with dried fruit, licorice, salt, and chocolate. Notable bitteness and a bit of alcohol dry this out a bit in the finish. Very enjoyable, but not spectacular. Surprisingly cheap at less than $2 a bottle. PorterPounder (3145), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Dark brown, mocha head, chocolate aroma, some olive oil in the back end. Thick mouthfeel. Original 3.8 Kind of grows on you - hard to describe in words. Licorice-like aroma and appearance. Meant to be drunk slow and savored. Full-bodied flavor lasts throughout - improves upon warming. Dorwart (1821), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2003 Nice thick, creamy head from the pour. Head lasts for a while also and leaves some nice lacing. Rich aroma with a slight touch of coffee, toffee and caramel. Color is a beautiful dark, red/black. Flavor is VERY smooth but not very complex. Can easily drink this right down. Flavor is a little weaker than expected but has coffee, roasted malts, raisins and is a little sweet. Finish is slightly bitter with a nice alcohol flavor and warming. The best Baltika product I have had so far. Nexxus (261), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA

Aroma presents malt and roast notes with a hint of dark fruit. Medium-thick creamy palate with little carbonation. Flavor is mostly malt and roast with hints of molasses, cherry and raisin.

Poured with a nice light tan head and plenty of lace. Opaque. A little bittersweet at first and then a pleasant long sweet finish. Soft mouth. A shade roasty. LIke I said, nice beer. Had this bottle at the Bodega Brew Pub downtown La Crosse Wisconsin USA. BeerRules (237), Houston, Texas, USA

Taste is sweet caramel, roasted, metallic, bit of fruitiness (reminds me of nectarines for some reason). Nice creamy mouthfeel with a lingering sweetness. I like that sweetness, but wish it had a bit more roastiness to it. Nice beer HogTownHarry (4020), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada

Dark ruby-brown with a massive tan foamy head - not a gusher, but it foamed out of the bottle. Roasty nutty aroma, sweet and dark. Taste is quite bitter - roast nutty malt, some chocolate and yeast, quite a bitter finish, nutshell. Thick, oily body, sort of still, long creamy malty finish - pretty decent porter, wish we could get it regularly
