| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 28, 2004 Cool 16.9 oz bottle. Extremely large fluffy tan head. Dark brown appearance, almost black. Very roasty dry coffee flavor. The roast is not too powerful, but the dryness does come through pretty big in the finish. Not a very complex flavor, but well balanced all the same. howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jul 16, 2004 Dark brown color, lasting tan head. Raisin, caramel aromas. Flavor is quite delicate and complex, with dried fruit, licorice, salt, and chocolate. Notable bitteness and a bit of alcohol dry this out a bit in the finish. Very enjoyable, but not spectacular. Surprisingly cheap at less than $2 a bottle. PorterPounder (3148), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Dark brown, mocha head, chocolate aroma, some olive oil in the back end. Thick mouthfeel. Original 3.8 Kind of grows on you - hard to describe in words. Licorice-like aroma and appearance. Meant to be drunk slow and savored. Full-bodied flavor lasts throughout - improves upon warming. Dorwart (1828), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jun 15, 2003 Nice thick, creamy head from the pour. Head lasts for a while also and leaves some nice lacing. Rich aroma with a slight touch of coffee, toffee and caramel. Color is a beautiful dark, red/black. Flavor is VERY smooth but not very complex. Can easily drink this right down. Flavor is a little weaker than expected but has coffee, roasted malts, raisins and is a little sweet. Finish is slightly bitter with a nice alcohol flavor and warming. The best Baltika product I have had so far. Syd (903), Waconia, Minnesota, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 2, 2003 Updated: Oct 6, 2007Bottle pours black with a monstrous brown head and prolific lace. The aroma is of roasted malt and dried fruit. The flavor is very nice. The flavor starts out with nice soft malt and progresses through to a slightly bitter coffee; somewhere in between it resembles an Imperial Stout. I also sense a slight hint of a lactic sugar in there. The palate is decent and works well for the flavor. Overall, I’m quite impressed. Update on 10/6/2007 - I’ve not had this beer since I rated it in 2003. It is far sweeter than I remember. It seems to have lost some of the dried fruit character. It gained in the chocolate department. I guess it has lost some complexity. I still like it, but not so much. Nexxus (261), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Nov 9, 2003 well-made with a distinct but subtle smokiness; has nowhere near the messy high-alchohol trappings of other Baltic Porter; in fact I think it's a very good intro to the style. Falls a little thin toward the end with warming, but still smooth and with well-rounded tastes of some nut, sweet brown sugar and smoke.
