Jul 5, 2008 Bottle purchased at BevMo in Vacaville. Kinda surprised I have never rated this. Just realized this after reading grant’s review. Aroma is quite pleasant with a great deal of cocoa, anise, and sugar cane. Quite quaffable. Modestly hazy mahogany-amber body with a medium tan head with adequate lacing. A little sweetness to start, before this becomes more anise-like with some definite underlying choco and coffee tones. A bit musty. Finishes pretty burnt and bitter with a deal of hops. This is pretty good stuff, which is a touch of a surprise.

Jan 16, 2007 Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a dark black color porter with a nice foamy head with good retention. Aroma of light roasted malt and chocolate is very pleasant and enjoyable. Taste is nice mix between roasted malt with some bitterness and some semi-sweet chocolate finish. Body is about average with some adequate carbonation. Very nice for the style overall and some thing I wouldn’t mind trying again.

Jan 2, 2005 Bottle: Deep, dark, near black brown color with a small tan head. Medium thick body. Aroma: rich, roasted, salty malts, banana, light alcohol, rum, chocolate, nuts. Taste: bitter molasses, chocolate syrup, bitter malts, mild hops towards the middle, sweet banana, wheat beer like alochol flavors, finishing bittersweet roasted flavors, with a dry hint of lighter grains.

Apr 5, 2006 Aroma displayed a little malt,a little chocolate and some alcohol, head was well formed, as good as I have seen on a n imported porter. Taste was sweet malt a little fruity ester,hop bitterness doesn’t really show, doesnt taste as alcoholic as it smells,nice easy safe Porter

Nov 22, 2007 Near black in colour with medium-to-high carbonation. Aromas of lightly roasted malts, caramel, and a bit of molasses. Malt forward in the mouth (as expected), but with a surprising amount of caramel. A touch of fruit and toffee as well, along with some black chocolate. The snappy finish makes for a fairly drinkable pint. Pretty good.

Apr 26, 2004 Pours deep black with tan head with good density. Aromas of coffee, malt, fruit and chocolate. Flavors are similar with roasted malt, strong coffee, slightly smokey with a bitter finish. Thin mouthfeel with a little bite on the back of the tongue. Overall it is a tasty brew with good malt and hop balance. Coffee aftertaste hangs around a little long though.

Nov 18, 2007 Updated: Mar 29, 2009Dark brown, almost black in colour with a tan head. Vinous, slightly spicy aroma with some chocolate. Slightly sour taste with chocolate and raisins. Excellent.
