Gregis (848), Overland Park, Kansas, USA Apr 22, 2008 Best by 24.05.07...oops. Served at cellar temp, it pours black with ruby highlights and a loose, frothy, beige head. On the nose are chocolate and dark roast with fruity wine-like undertones. Light to medium-bodied and almost creamy with a roasted, moderately bitter finish that includes a touch of alcohol warmth. Sweet, chocolaty, roasted malt with a noticeable hop bitterness blending into the roasted finish. It lingers sweet and roasty with notes of burnt sugar and bittering hops. Perhaps, it’s a tad sweeter than I might prefer, but it is a tasty brew. At less than $2 for a 500 ml bottle, it’s also quite a bargain.
pj1855 (18), Eagan, Minnesota, USA Jul 17, 2008 Black with hints of red. Mostly diminishing light brown foamy head. Smells of cookie and molasses. Initially sweet taste with a slight alcohol finish.
Light bodied almost watery mouthfeel. Drinkable but probably won’t go out of my way to buy again. cellar (261), Dublin, Ireland Jul 16, 2008 almost blac, with tiny cafe au lait head. nice strong notes of burned malt, liqourice and dark chocolate. Sweet flavour and short bitter and dry finish. Well balanced. dkachur (623), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle from Market Street Wineshop Downtown Charlottesville. Reddish brown pour with a large head. Good retention and alcing. Big roasted malt aroma with caramel notes. Sweet, fruity and sligtly bitter taste. The roasted malt comes through as well. Thick mouthfeel. swanmann (236), Norman, Oklahoma, USA Jul 12, 2008 The bottle pours deep chocolate brown moderately dissipating tan head, light barely penetrating. Rich chocolate aroma with some alcohol and very high floral notes. Smooth, lush palate. Very sweet. With soft carbonation the palate still holds up as it warms. It’s a bold syrupy porter. Ethereal (723), London, Greater London, England Jul 7, 2008 Bottle brought over from Kaliningrad by one of Masha’s friends, much appreciated. Drunk at tashi’s place, 15th June 2008. Near black in colour and almost totally still, this has a delicate soft malt and dark chocolate flavour and aroma. It’s very smooth with a sweet aftertaste. Brings back great memories of my 2006 road trip to Kaliningrad with tashi and it’s still an awesome beer. The new bottle shape with embossed crest looks really classy and is easier to hold. Now the brewery just needs to see the light and make it readily available in the UK!
