ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Nov 1, 2009 16.9 ounce bottle - $2.29 at House of Brews in Clarksville, Tennessee. Production Date: 11.10.08. Best Before: 11.10.09. Quick, toss me a bottle opener, there’s not a moment to lose!
Appearance: Hastily poured out a cloudy, pale yellow body with a tall, frothy, white head.
Smell: Sweetish, slightly tangy nose of malted wheat with notes of lemon, (mild) spice, and a graham crackers gently brushed on one side with honey.
Taste: Sweetish malt character largely encompassed by the taste of (lightly) tangy wheat malt. Drizzles of sweet wildflower honey cross my rather surprised tongue. Small touches of lemony citrus and mild spice. Mild hop bitterness. Comrade Baltika has a semi-dry finish that’s crisp and provides a final flavor of graham cracker crumbs.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation for just the right amount of zip. Amply creamy mouthfeel.
Drinkability: Surprisingly adequate! Though, for now, I’m just quietly plugging this into Windows Notepad on a computer lacking an internet connection and therefore providing no access to BeerAdvocate whatsoever, I still feel strongly in my opinion that this’ll be the highest rated Baltika product for me... thus far! There’s still a few out there. Now, at long last, there’s a bit of hope added to the steely trepidation I feel for future Baltika products. Barreras (121), Diamond Bar, California, USA Oct 12, 2009 Pours a clean crisp yellow with a slight cloudiness. Smells and tastes of lemon and orange peels. Slight hints of caramel in he aftertaste. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 23, 2009 Okay Baltika! This is nice. Really nice. Sweet, but in a good way and a fantastic balance. Of all the Baltikas, I didn’t expect the Wheat to be the great one. Greatness. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Sep 15, 2009 Bottle. A golden body with a white head. Sweet with wheat and a light coriander and dried lemongrass. A hint of spices and caramel with some light bubblegum and apple-ish notes. floydian1 (255), FNQ, Australia Sep 13, 2009 500ml bottle into weizen glass. A pale yellow unfiltered beer with a decent sized bubbly white head. Wheat malts on the nose with yeast, banana, bubblegum and faint citrus. Refreshing spritzy mouthfeel with a medium body. Finishes with a banana-like sweetness. A more than decent hefe - if you were served this on a Summer’s day in Munich I’m sure you would have no complaints.
