Cask gravity at Bedford BF ’09. Very dark brown. Sweet malty aroma and taste. A little grain, but sweetness is the predominant sensation.

Dark brown with a small off-white head. Fruity aroma with plums, and also some caramel. Rich and dark flavour with fruity plum notes, and dark, bitter chocolate

(Cask at Lass o’ Gowrie, Manchester, 23 July 2009) Black colour with creamy, brown head. Roasted, malty nose with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and cream. Malty, roasted taste with coffee (with milk) and chocolate. Slightly below medium body, creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Nice and well balanced mild.

Cask. At The Wenlock Arms. Near opaque reddish-black pour, with an average lasting tan head - looks just like it should. Deep, deep roast aroma - strong coffee, dark chocolate, some anise and herbal bitterness, smelled a tad acidic. The taste followed - strong roast, no alcohol, acidic but not sour, definitely plenty of bittering hops in this one, and most important, no cola/rootbeer character: terrific mild flavour. Wonderfully thick-bodied, creamy and intensely flavourful deep roast palate presence - 4+. A lovely, wonderful, must-have-more mild!

Cask at Battersea Beer Festival, 13th Feb 2009. Very dark brown, little bit of foamy head. Lovely and smooth, full without being heavy. Delicate coffee flavours and aromas. Good balance. Could do with more pronounced flavours but overall a very good mild in the classic mold.

Cask at GBBF 08. Very dark brown, almost black, with a tan head. Good roasted aroma, some chocolate. Taste emphasizes chocolate, though roasted coffee is always present. Lightish body as expected. A good mild.
