Nice toffee nose with some roast along for the ride. Lots of lacing. Soft attack, medium body with a spritz of carb on the finish. Very nice mouthfeel. Roast and toast in there. Very dry hollow finish. Great, clean, drinkable, satisfying stout--this is the good stuff. jcr (1177), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 23, 2006 This stout eclipses other dry stouts with its balance of sweet, bitter and dry. Black pour with big bubbled tan head. Its nose is mainly roasted malts with hints of sweet coffee. The flavor started sweet and malty and moved quickly to roast and coffee and finished tart and bitter. Thin body with moderate, raspy carbonation. Acidic finish. Highly drinkable. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 22, 2006 Midnight black pour with a deep brown highlight. The head builds as the beer is poured - slowly receding into a creamy cap. The pour also releases alot of CO2 which really smells plasticy. Below the blanket of dioxide is a subdued roasted malt profile that is indeed invited. Fortunately, the body really redeems the nose. The slight tartness in the finish makes this beer for me. Sure there is lots of bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Some toffee and nuttiness as well. But it isn’t overly sweet and the tartness concretes this. It is nice to drink a full flavored stout that isn’t as filling as a chocolate dessert. A great dry stout indeed. matta (1139), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 28, 2006 Thanks to Me for bringing this beer back from Maine last March.
Stout pours with a nearly opaque ink black body. The head is deep shade of khaki. It pours large but fades quickly into oblivion… & there sits a stout.
The aroma is sweet, fruity and chocolaty. The flavor offers thoughts of plums, date sugars, milk chocolates, licorice, and molasses. The palate is a bit chalky, and is particularly dry in the finish. A very nice beer… would fare well on cask!

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 23, 2006 Bomber thanks to ambergirl! Poured a clear, very deep burgundy with garnet highlights... short creamy layer of beige head. Roasted cocoa and dark chocolates at the first whiff.. with a wonderful deep espresso and licorice presence wafting through beneath. Delicate and complex flavor profile, showcasing an excellent blend of deeply-roasted dark malts (milkier and dark chocolates, espresso, licorice, and soy).. with some airy and complimentary herbal & oaky bitterness. Dry on the palate with smooth malts across the middle. Long, dry, and roasty finish with a mild herbal bitterness. Excellent! thornecb (1794), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA
