smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Oct 24, 2009 Quickly dying head that leaves no lace. Bright golden color and quite clear.
Mild aromas of pale grains. Crisp.
Crisp, almost a lager. The body is thin and the carbonation is high. The flavor is good for a mild, but I would not describe this as a dark one. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 18, 2009 In short: A bland and problematic watery toasted golden ale. To avoid.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after I purchased it in Maine
The look: Partially cloudy golden blonde body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Nose is toasted bread, roasted nuts and something I’d describe as mold/rot. Unsatisfying evasive body. Taste is like taking a bite of dry toasted bread while taking a big sip of water. Also present are some roasted nuts. An off-putting dry earth sensation that seems to be coming from the yeast. Some woody hops. The very active carbonation is almost welcomed since it crushes flavours that are most likely problematic. More problematic than bland. Better than a macro “amber” ale but not by much. I bought a bunch of Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout and in my rush to I did not realize that one of the bottle was actually Lighthouse. I hate that when I buy something by mistake that’s not just for me. Like when I come back home with extra-large condoms. Although that’s not by mistake, it’s because I find the casher cute. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Sep 16, 2009 On tap at the brewery. I had heard some bad reviews around town, but this was very nice. A light ale to be sure, but refreshing and clean. A touch toasty and easy to drink. I only wish more American breweries would embrace the style. BigBen2120 (688), Derry, New Hampshire, USA Aug 17, 2009
22oz bomber purchased at Florian’s Market in Auburn, Maine, split with BA CheckMate. Pours a murky brick red with less than a half inch of off-white head that dissipates quickly. Caramel, biscuit, with earthy hops and a slight fruitiness in the aroma, along with a touch of butterscotch. Butterscotch, nut, spice, slightly vinous, earthy and slightly herbal. Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Fairly quaffable overall, my favorite example of the style but a fairly decent beer. alobar (1006), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 8, 2009 Pours a light brownish yellow color with a white head. Aroma of malts, nuts, and some hops. Nice flavor with a light nut, malt, and hop taste. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 3, 2008 22oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Labeled "Brew 13". Pours hazy brown, capped with a moderate sized off white head. Aroma is on the sweet side with malt, grain, and caramel. Flavor is on the sweet side as well, with caramel, chocolate, nuts, and mild earthy hops. Very drinkable. borgination (101), Lee, Massachusetts, USA Sep 28, 2008 Bought this beer while in Bar Harbor on vacation. Pretty good beer. A nice hoppy ale with a reddish brown color. BelgianBeerGal (1275), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Sep 26, 2008 Sample at the brewery. Honestly only the second mild ale I have tasted but this seemed to have more more (and better) flavour to my previous experience. Very easy drinking and probably an easy seesion fit.
