Light bodied, the flavor was weak as was the carbonation-lightly fruity with some caramel, a hint of sourness and a short finish. Supposably a "steam" style beer, this one could definitely use some tweaking. kwoeltje (1333), Manchester, Missouri, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Jan 1, 2005 (Holiday pack) Nice deep gold but almost no head. flavor is mostly malt (a bit biscuity as it warmed) with a slightly sour aftertaste. Fritz won’t be loosing sleep over competition from this one. nick76 (2688), Tampa, Florida, USA

The appearance has a amber hue with a few floating particles. The flavor is like the aroma and bordering on cloying like syrup. The palate is thin. Overall not a bad tasting beer but not like a California Common at all. thegreenrooster (1846), St.louis, Missouri, USA
| 2.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Pour is a amber with no head. Very small aroma of hops with no malts. Flavor is just water with a little malt kick to it. Very watery and thin. No where near the quality of anchor steam. mstockton (186), Rochester, Michigan, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Dec 26, 2004 Not a whole lot going on. A little bitter, but rather light overall. This came in an X-mas gift pack with 5 other beers that supposedly tell the history of American style beer. I am kind of happy that I was not around for the gold rush...this stuff is supposedly from that era. BeerandBlues2 (3231), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 3/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Sep 28, 2004 Color of a marzen; deep, burnished copper with a bone white head. Lightly sweet caramel aroma. Smooth malt character with some toasted bread intertwined with residual sweetness. Pungent hop character in flavor sticks in the flavor. Pretty unpleasant. Highly bitter carbonation level.
