mgoy (289), Oak Brook, Illinois, USA Apr 23, 2008 On tap at Upstairs in Bloomington, IN. Bare Knuckle Stout is a pitch black beer with a beautiful creamy tan head. The aroma is mild and roasted and the flavor is roasted with a slightly bitter finish. This is a very smooth, but also watery beer with little to no carbonation.
HonkeyBra (509), Lemont, Illinois, USA Dec 1, 2008 I remember this one. Crushed it at a Celtic fest in Michigan a few months ago. On Tap. I think it was labled "Dark Beer" or something. I had to press some people to tell me what it actually was. Figures its from AB. Pours dark with a fake creamy head. Aroma is very light coffee, maybe some chocolate milk powder. Flavor is very thin, very weak coffee. Some plastic off flavors as well. Not good. I would not ever pay money to drink this again. Beershine (1515), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2008 Tap at Zeke’s. Dark opaque black with artificially stable level of head. Lame metallic, bland aroma but no sourness. Has some cocoa in the back of the nose. Soft nitro mouthfeel. Roasty after the sweet entry. just drinkable Oakes (7030), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 27, 2008 Dark brown with a thick, artificial head. Faint aroma is thin, spent coffee grounds, not much else. Light chocolate taste but this does not have pleasurable flavours and the nitro seems to mute anything positive that may otherwise be lurking. smashteroid (167), USA Nov 26, 2008 Completely underwhelmed. I should have known what this was...the name sounded familiar but I couldn’t place it. The bar I went to (an ironic trucker bar) said it was "like Guinness", which on its own sounded unappetizing, but the beer turned out to be way worse than Guinness. Oh well. Brewbie (136), Pine City, New York, USA Oct 26, 2008 draft. nice looking, head lasts all the way down to the finish. didn’t get a lot of flavor from this. watery, bitter roast taste. couldn’t see drinking another.
