LordHedgehog (144), Westminster, Maryland, USA Dec 31, 2003 Pours to a deep caramel, lovely stout appearance. Sweet inticing aroma. Slightly smokey taste, hints of cream. Medium-bodied, balanced brew. Somewhat dry, and the alcohol shines through, but not in a bad way. One of the better stouts I've tried. hopscotch (4579), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jan 15, 2003 Updated: Jan 31, 2004This beer rocks!
The aroma is of rich chocolate, buttery caramel, Blue Mountain coffee, yeast, roasted nuts and alcohol.
It pours very black. When held up to the light, a deep crystal clear crimson hue is revealed. Medium-sized, creamy, fully lasting khaki-colored head. Leaves lacework much like that of heavy cream.
The flavor is perfectly balanced. That said, the beer is fairly bland, with only a couple of the wonderful aromas coming through in the flavor. Very ejoyable though, and balance counts for a lot with me.
Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. Roasted, dry finish. This is a great stout. Probably this brewery's strongest offering.
KSS (102), Plymouth, Minnesota, USA Apr 26, 2006 Dark stout with a creamy tan head. Nice chocolate and coffee aroma. Light body for a stout. Smooth creamy mouthfeel. Rich chocolate taste with a smoky finish. A delicious and wonderfully drinkable stout. CaptainCougar (4663), Rockville, Maryland, USA Aug 19, 2007 On tap at the brewpub on 4/9/07: Pours an opaque black with a half inch thick airy, wispy-lacing tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet caramel and milk chocolate malt. Body starts fairly full, sweet, and roasty with a touch of earthy grain toward a lightly bittersweet chocolate finish.
