| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 29, 2008 Draft at Barley Browns in Baker City. Dark plum purple and tawny brown colored body with rich and deep red hues on the sides of the glass. Small film of a dark tan head. Intensely malt-heavy nose full of cedar wood shavings, black cherries, fermented plums and toasted nuts. Thick, heavy, syrupy, old-ale like in both texture and carbonation, with a slight oxidation that compliments the semi-sweet, resinous oily (as in nut oil) texture. Good stuff. carboloader (319), Houston, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 4, 2004 Pours a murky dark brown with medium-sized beige head that fades quickly. Aroma is hops, pine, nutmeg (?), pumpkin (?), cinnamon. Flavor is fairly complex but is punctuated by an artificial saccharin-like sweetness. Reminds me of some spicy brown ales. Very good were it not for the interfering sweetness.
