Commercial Description:
Barley Days Brewery’s Wind & Sail Dark Ale is a dark chestnut ale that unfolds its aromas under a rich, smooth head. Full of nutty goodness, and with a core of dark chocolate flavour, this fine brew helps you discover the exotic side of Canadian craft beer. Both exciting and well rounded, this clear dark ale, with 5% alcohol and a nice earthy finish, has all it takes to be a year ‘round favourite.

On tap at Volo. Sampled from a friend. Very unimpressed. Nutty aroma dominated a sugary malt profile. Bitter taste. Grassy undertones. Unworthy of the word craft.

341 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark reddish brown with tiny tan head. Aroma is fairly mild with a light nuttiness and some caramel sweetness. Taste is much bigger - very nutty with caramel and roasty notes. Long, fairly bitter finish. Body a little weak and overly fizzy carbonation. A little disappointing.

Deep brown pour. The nose is fairly caramelly with a touch of plumminess. A bit of light sweet raisin. A bit of light spice over a sweet maltiness. Fairly sweet but it is well balanced by the spice and some nice earthy hops. Pepper and a kiss of light plumminess.

341ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours dark with a small white head. Not as much flavour or body as the colour suggests, but but it went down nicely, and seemed well rounded.

Copper-brown in color, off-white head that dissipates. Recent changes in this beer have moved it more in style with English Brown Ales as opposed to Irish Ales or Stouts. The Roasted Barley has been removed from the brewing process, and two-row and dark crystal remain the prominent malts.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with a big fizzy three finger beigh head. aroma was sweet with light malts, toffee and some mustiness. Flavor was bland and watery with light roast, ripe fruit and has a hint of toffee and nuts. dont bother

On tap. Deep honey brown with a solid creme coloured head. Grassy hops, honey malt, hints of spices. Smooth, slightly tangy, finish, with a touch of grassy hops. Really enjoyed it.

341 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours dark copper in colour, with caramel coloured head, which dissipates quickly. Strong sweet, nutty aroma. Flavour is also sweet, roasted malt. Hoppy finish. Nice beer!
