Commercial Description:
What is an Enkle you ask? Enkle means Single in Flemmish, as in Single, Dubbel and Tripel. This is a style that does not see commercial success and in fact there is very little written on it, so naturally we were intrigued. This is our attempt at a Monk's table beer, a beer that is golden, lightly hopped, pulled together by the wonderful Belgian spiciness from the yeast, and can be enjoyed without the consequences of a Tripel.

I’m a bit surprised that there’s no section here for a Belgian single, which this is, so I tossed the dart at this stylistic designation. And there we go... Lovely looking in the glass, a hazy, golden orange, under a considerable head, looking nice... Aroma was very lovely, a mix of citrus, spice, yeast and more, very uplifting and aromatic. Taste is this again and then some, zesty, citric, spicy, tasty, very flavorful, mucho deliciouso...for a style little attempted by any American breweries, this is a revelation. I’ve had a few "real" versions, and this one "hit it"! I had two servings and would’ve had more, if it weren’t closing time. I urge one and all to march up (or down) to NB and try some of this!

On tap at the brewpub, August 2006.
Hazed and pale goldenrod in color with a dense, creamy white head. Ripe banana muffins grace the nose with cloves and vanilla, then joining the likes of lemon almond butter, banana meringue and a subtle honey graham exposure. Well-rounded sugar enclave moves into a buttercream feel and flavor. Sweet substance dances harmoniously alongside oozing banana crème centers. Titillating carbonation with a flakey sugar roll gels the fruity esters together. Coriander gives a glimpse at the end of each sip, but there’s no slowing the melting make of powdered sugar. Lemon shortbread with banana suggestions imparts a lighter, brighter tone underneath the buttery banana aspects. Medium-bodied with soft, pronounced bitterness. Tongue hugging finish checks out while banana bread pudding sweetly reminds us of how delightful Belgian-style brewing can be.

Dark orange with a large head. Aroma of dry grain, light floral hops and a touch of spice. Thick and chewy malt flavor. Very light spice and a decent helping of yeasty flavors. Seems pretty strong for a Table Beer, but a solid tasting brew anyway.

Growler, thanks to StewardOfGondor. Dusty gold, little head. Grassy sweet belgian spice, dusty wheat. Light hop, light spice, light sweet estery malt. Light flavor (it is a little cold), but well put together.

Pours a just slightly hazy golden color, small white head. Aroma is sweet, banana and vanilla again. Weird how this is a continuing thing in the last 2 bottles I’ve rated. Flavor is plasticy and sweet. Kind of strange.

Pre-GTMW tasting @ 1FastSTi’s place. Slight haze, light amber body with white head. The aroma is clove, candi and herbal. The flavor is herbal, spicey and dry. The mouth is light and lively. Nice.

Not something I would ask for again, but a nice change to the huge trippel belgian ales. Its like a trippel, but way toned down. Not bad.
