Commercial Description:
This Bitter's "Extra Special" comes in the form of toasted malt - just a touch to enhance the biscuit tones in the malt. Light to moderate hop profile and a touch of sweetness to balance, this pale/orange British ESB lands right between our Bitter and IPA for an enjoyable refreshing ale.

RBSG 07 tap at brewpub. Pours a nice medium amber with a fluffy lasting off white head. Aroma is lightly sweet caramel malts, and good english floral hops but doenst get into the tannic tea-like quality- stays flowery and lightly sweet. Herbal and floral hop sin the flavor- hints of toffeeand nuts, caramel malts and a good clean bitterness. Solid ESB as expected.

Deep amber color, staying head. A fragrant blast of northwest hops is first from the glass. Some quieter notes of honey biscuits and malt dispersions. Very green tasting. Heavy on pine resins and some citrus reduction. Crisp and clean, slightly English in disposition (but in an IPA kind of way). Lacking the tepid fruity and grainy depths of better examples, but compensating with its refreshing qualities. Palate weighs a bit thin though not watery. Not for the most particular, but approachable and well made.

On tap at the brewpub on 6/23/07: Pours an effervescent bright copper with a nicely-lacing web of white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty caramel malt with some faint English hops. Body starts with a nice light caramel malty sweetness and good lightly piny flavoring and bitter hops toward a crisp, balanced finish. A good ESB.

On tap at RBSG 07. An amber pour with an aroma of malt and light hops. A light malt flavor with a good hop bitter that grows on the back of your tongue. Slightly thin but good solid smooth mouthfeel. A good ESB.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours a nice amber with a decent sized white head. A tad more bitterness on the nose and palate that the Little Barley Bitter. Decent amount of citrusy hops make up for a slightly watery finish. Again... quite drinkable and it’s got a fair amount of flavor.
