Barley Johns Stockyard IPA

[Tap] Poured a hazy sort of copper with a medium beige head. Aroma was pretty fantastic. Lots of floral and citric hops. Unfortunately, the flavor did not stand up. It was way too malty, with tons of caramel, and not nearly enough hop flavor or bitterness. Started off great but ended up pretty disappointing.

Growler from hellomynameis, thanks! Pours cloudy, burnt orange with a moderate off-white head and good lace. Smells very nice, dark, resiny and earthy hop scents. A bit of dark caramelly hops as well. Tastes dark citrusy, overripe orange flavor, slight alcohol flavor. Nice malt flavors toward the finish and nice lingering bitterness. Full body, good carbonation.

murky amber pour, thin white head. Caramel malt and cheese aroma. More caramel malt in the flavor, a bit of citrus hops, honey, and butter. Finishes mildly bitter, syrupy. Meh.

On tap at the brewpub. Lightly hazed reddish brown with a thin light tan head. Big malt, rounder, floral. Fruity mango, strawberry. Light caramelly toast. Fu.. creamy average carbonation. Fruity hops. Malt is toasty. Strawberry. Lingering bitterness and toast, alright.

Very underrated beer here, I have to say. Not quite as hoppy as most good IPAs, but very tasty all around. The aroma and flavor were pretty similar, featuring lots of apricot and peach, caramel malts, burnt sugar and decent citrus hops in support. All of these flavors come together very nicely. The palate was good and relatively thick, but unremarkable. Overall this is a really tasty beer - maybe a bit sweeter than your average IPA, but pretty delicious regardless. (On a side note, this reminds me A LOT of the Rush River bubble jack, with the bubble jack having a better palate and appearance, and the stockyard being a little more flavorful)
