Commercial Description:
Well-balanced and refreshing. Copper coloured, it is crisp with a toasty note. In Germany, they call it Roggenbier. Now, about the name. Hint: Look out the front window.

Objectively speaking: Fruity, soft rye ale.
I like: The rye spiciness which I enjoy comes out, though timidly. Mostly dry palate. Interesting fruity array (peach, pear and the likes). Soft bodied.
I dislike: Frankly deceivingly simple for a rye beer and really light-bodied. Not much cerealic complexity. Not very aromatic. Timid carbonation accentuates the wateriness. More hops would have been welcome.

Draft at BrewHouse #1. Hazy copper pour with an average frothy white head that diminished slowly and had fair lacing. Moderate sweet citrus rye aroma. Medium bodywith a slick texture. Moderate balanced rye flavor with a medium bittersweet hop finish of moderate duration. Drinkable brew.

On tap: Medium amber hue with good creamy head and lace. Aroma hinted of toasted malt, biscuit, grainy (rye and hay), piney and grassy hops, and lemon. The taste was crisp and fruity with a rye snap towards the finish. Good overall balance with a smooth malt tone. Pretty nice ale with crsipness to clean my palate when eating. Enjoyable.

Tasted at Barley’s 10th Anniversary Party on November 21st. This beer was a dark amber color with a very thin beige head. Nutty and toasty aroma. Complemented my meatloaf very well as it was a tart and crisp. Not the best Barley’s has to offer but above average.

Very pale yellow. Tangy, moderately astringent. Dry cereal finish with a bit of that rye twang. Not terribly fancy or complex, pretty easy drinking.

Okay, so the sign currently on the wall at Barleys claims this to be an IPA. Not just an ale. That said, this is terrible. An odd earthy grainy aroma, it has the hop bitterness of the style to start, but is disappointly overpowered by subpar malts that leave a bad taste in the mouth. The worst of the Barleys beers I’ve had.

On cask at alehouse #1 - Poured cloudy amber with a short creamy tan head that stayed pretty well and laced some. Aroma is pretty much straight up grapefruit hops.. Started out pretty promising. However there was more of a nutty flavor than I expected with a nasty biting aftertaste that seemed to hang on a little past bitter. Some definite grapefruit and pine there but as I’ve had with other ryes this one didn’t seem to smooth the flavor out... Pretty good flavor but the palate was a little rough on this one..

On tap at the brewpub. Pours hazy amber with a small white head with good retention. The aroma has citrus, pineapple and something that reminds me of a locker room, yet I’m not repulsed by it. Medium body with semi-soft carbonation. The taste has the dryness of the rye, a nice form of harshness and dry grapefruits. The finish continues even drier with pine needles and pine cones. A very enjoyable IPA that I wish I could get on more than just a stopping place on a long road trip.
