Jan 23, 2007 A buddy at work brought me this growler fresh from the brewpub in Columbus. Pours about as pretty as a beer can be - chestnut brown with a thick tan head. Thick foamy lacing sticks to the sides of the glass. Aroma of molasses, buckwheat blossom honey, and strong columbus hops. Flavor is mildly roasty and sweet, along with a subtle nuttiness followed by a blast of hoppiness, which sticks around for a long finish. Relatively thick bodied with smooth carbonation. This is a very good beer. I know this borders on sacrilege to some, but I wish they had used a less pungent hop variety in this. EKG or Hallertauer would have worked beautifully, in my opinion. Those who like Columbus hops will love this beer.

Jan 21, 2007 Growler from the pub. He’s a good guy to let me fill up, I suppose he did not have to but the brewer is (as always) a great guy. This is actually the 3rd time I’ve met him but He never remembers me. Oh well. At any rate, this was a fine brew. The appearance is solid and has a nice head. The aroma is fairly light but has a burnt malt, lightly sweet, molasses aroma. The flavor is not to far from this either. There is burn malt, light sweetness, and a bunch of enjoyable heavy tastes. This is not the ault that I am used to having. Good.

Jan 9, 2007 Very nice hop aroma.Pours a dark cloudy brown with a medium tan head.Sweet malt and hops stand out in the flavors.Medium to full mouthfeel with a sweet finish and some hops in there as well.

Jan 14, 2006 Updated: Mar 20, 2006Very dark brown with very little head. Really rich and sweet, but also very bitter. Flavors of caramel and chocolate. Also was very warming on this cold day.

Jan 11, 2006 On tap at alehouse #1 - Pours a dark deep murky brown with a fair tan head that fades rather quickly. Aroma is caramel, brown sugar, some chocolate, and some definite hop presence. Flavor is a divine mix of sweet caramel and chocolate malts also some notes of dark fruit with a curious hop finish. Palate is medium bodied and quite smooth and somewhat earthy and drinkable. Very well done...

Feb 4, 2005 On draught at Ale House #1. This beer is a murky burnt sienna color with a medium beige head. Thin and sticky lacing. The aroma is really sweet with caramel, brown sugar and malt. Medium-bodied with a nice balance of flavors. Brown sugar and malt are offset by a fair amount of hops. The finish is earthy and is equal parts hops and sweet malt, along with a bit of dark fruit afterftaste. Well done Alt!

Jan 24, 2005 (No. 1) Cloudy dark brown body with beige head. Aroma is medium sweet, raisin, caramel, bready, faint peat. Taste is medium sweet, raisin, caramel, some peat in finish. Medium creamy body. Very enjoyable beer.

Jan 1, 2005 Interesting beer. Pours brown with hardly any head. Earthy hop taste with malty undertones. Really upfront hop presence. Great unique beer.
