1/10/04: on tap at ale house #1
dark brown body with hints of red. light-tan colored, creamy head. small malty nose with hints of hops. hops and malt seem to be fairly well balanced (slightly more hops than malt).

This beer they compare to Old Peculiar, so I am going with an old ale assessment rather than a English brown ale. The beer was a very dark reddish brown color and had a medium brown bubbly head that left a little lace. Some small amount of carbonation present. The aroma was of malt and butterscotch and became more predominant as the beer warmed. The flavor was also of malt and butterscotch and also got better as it warmed up. The finish was slightly sweet and had a slight hint of alcohol. Another good beer from Scott Francis and his Barley’s Brewing crew!

Smooth. Can tend towards that micro-brew typical aftertaste. Maybe it’s the Columbus hops that always comes through in particular brew to make me say that...

Rerate: 9/23/02: Molasses flavor stands out to me more. Excellent. Smooth, full flavor. Similar to a Scottish ale but slightly more palatable. Slightly cloudy, auburn colored. I didn’t get any odd flavors on this batch except, perhaps, a tiny hint of special B or other raisiny malt.

This beer is a little different. I recall some very strange spices, in the fennel and oregano type. Still a very good beer.
