vikingbeercbus (34), Columbus, Ohio, USA Aug 18, 2009 20 oz. Tap at Ale House #1. Pours dark chocolate, almost black, with a thin brownish head. Malts, nuts, as previously mentioned. Not as much chocolate as the traditional Schwarbeir may lead you to believe, which was fine with me. Heavy, but even as a small framed girl, I could handle a 20 oz. Barley’s always pulls through. Dogbrick (2816), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 8, 2009 On draught at Ale House #1. The beer pours blackish-brown with a thin light tan head that dissipates quickly. Short strings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with notes of malt and coffee. Medium body with a roasted malt character and flavors of nuts and coffee. Mild hoppiness as well. The finish is moderately bitter coffee with a malty aftertaste. Pretty good overall, these homebrew contest winners never disappoint. Tmoney99 (4660), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jun 23, 2009 Draft at Barleys Afternoon with the Brewers.
Poured a dark brown color with an average frothy off-white head that was mostly lasting and produced good lacing. Moderate roasted sweet malt and nuts aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium roasted bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
Sold drinkable brew. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 22, 2009 Very dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of toasted malts. Flavor of roasted/toasted malts. Full bodied and like a mild porter.
