Light orange color with a sticky head and a great fresh hop nose. Smooth mouthfeel. Nice pineapple, grapefruit and applesauce flavors with the grapfruit lingering long in the finish. Maybe a little thin in body, especially given its billing as "big, big," but a great match with pub food. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Mar 8, 2003 On cask:
Poured a cloudy, golden colored body with a creamy, cask-conditioned white head. Some lacing.
Hop aroma wasn't as pronounced as I would have expected. This was the one 4x dry-hopped for the RAF. Nice citrusy aroma balanced by a sweet malt character.
The dry-hop hops really jump out in the flavor. Lots of bitter floral and citrus. Malt is somewhat hidden by the high IBU (60-70???) but it's there. Slight yeastiness and sweetness maybe from the cask being disturbed? Strong ABV that's not tasted but it's there!
Very rich and full on the tongue and perfectly conditioned from the cask. The slight yeastiness worked in the taste.

Just retried this from the firkin. The hop flavor and aroma seemed alot more floral. Also it didn't have the metalic finish like before. But it was pretty flat. tkaufman (129), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 21, 2003 Just had this on firkin at the smokehouse and it was excellent. A huge hop bouquet greets you even from the firkin. The appearance was a little subpar with some cloudiness due to residual yeast I assume. The flavor and palate though were right on with numerous hop flavors backed by a large malt background and a subtle oak taste. One of my favorite Barley's beers. Frank (1066), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Notes of pine and citrus in the aroma. Bitter front with some fruityness later. Hoppy, mildly astringent finish. ultraspank (866), Dublin, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 19, 2002 Had one of these on tap at the brewpub. Clean nose of citrus, pine and resinous hops. Anise and figs also present. Pours a clear copper. The average white frothy head is mostly lasting with fair lacing. The flavor starts bitter with a moderate to heavy citrus middle and a strong hoppy finish. The Medium lively body is dry and finishes very astringent. My favorite sample of the day. stephen (308), California, USA
