Commercial Description:
Bigger than either an English or American IPA in both alcohol strength and overall hop level (bittering and finish). Less malty, lower body, less rich and a greater overall hop intensity than an American Barleywine. Not necessarily as high in gravity/alcohol as a barleywine. A showcase for hops. Warning: this ale is 10%+/- alcohol by volume and extremely bitter!

Had this on tap @ the Smokehouse whilst I was catching up with my good friend Rick. Nose of heavy grapefruit, orange, and lemon (in a word citrusy). Pine and nectarines are also noticable. Reminds me of something from FFF. As encouraging and appealing as an aroma can be. I’m gonna like this, I just know it. Pours a sparkling orange copper. The mostly diminishing small creamy/frothy white head leaves sticky lace. The brew has surprisingly good balance, again much citrus here in the flavor as well. The alcohol content is supremely incognito. The excellent finish is long and lingering. Perfect. The light to medium body is lively and dry. The finish feels very sharp & astringent. Thank god they serve this in a snifter, can’t imagine trying to stop myself from finishing a pint or two - that could be a disaster with the unholy ABV. This would be the ultimate beer pong "money cup" brew!

An orange appearance with a moderate head. A nice pine, apricot, and orange aroma. The flavor is quite bitter with some alcohol showing through. There are some orange peel and apricot flavors present. The aftertaste is rather sweet. Excellent stuff.

A nice light amber pour. An aroma of big hops of an unknown origin. A slightly sweet malt flavor with a big hops kicker. This was a damn fine beer thanks to whomever brought this to kp’s cellar. Nice! I almost passed on this beer don’t ever make that mistake if you like hops and alcohol.

KP’s fest. Growler. Porus a medium amber with a thin white head and some nice sticky lace. Aroma is very resinous, pine, citrus, orangey, grapefruit, smokey-chinook-like. Sticky thick malty body, caramel sweetness, with more resin hops, citrus, pine with a powerful bitterness. Nice body and full mouthfeel.

Growler thanks to my boy Trep. Poured a hazy amber color with a medium off-white head. The aroma was big and full of hops. Piney and sweaty with a decent amount of caramel mlat showing through. Malty flavor mixed with plenty of earthy and piney hops. Notes of candy as well. Nice warming sensation.

Pours cloudy orange color. Nice hoppy aroma (It didn’t seem to be citrus or piney to me, but it was good.) Flavor of tangy hops and malt. The alcohol is well hidden.

Growler acquired in trade with bgburdman9 (thanks!). Poured a medium to deeper and cloudy amber color with a large sized off white head. Aromas of grapefruit, pine, oranges and caramel. Tastes of pine, caramel, and citrus (grapefruit and orange peels). This one was nice and bitter with a malty backbone. Alcohol content well hidden. Nice IIPA...

Barley’s flirted with the IIPA style back in 2003 with the Kiss My Bitter Ass IPA. That beer was stronger than a normal IPA, but not quite an Imperial. Now they have finally ventured into the style fully and the results are pretty good. Served in a snifter. Murky dark orange/amber color with a medium off-white head with fair retention. Spotty lacing. Citrusy hops aroma with a good amount of malt. Medium-bodied and smooth yet bitter. Citrus and hops dominate the flavor, with some pine and malt thrown in. The finish is bitter on the tongue, with a piney hops aftertaste and a mild alcohol burn. Pretty good all around.
