Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Oct 28, 2008 Draft at Smokehouse. Poured dark brown with an average creamy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Solid roasted coffee malt aroma. Medium body with a dry smooth texture. Solid roasted balanced flavor with a smooth average bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 29, 2008 A creamy yet watery example, particularly light-bodied. Earthy and soft malt character displays almost no roastiness, but surprises towards the end with a whisper of smoke. Minimal leafy hops at the end. I don’t know what was the deal, but as with almost every Barley’s I’ve had, surprisingly thin and certainly not stoutish. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Aug 30, 2008 3/30/08: On tap @ Smokehouse. Brown-black bodied with a creamy tan head. Chocolate malt nose. Full flavor of malts, dark chocolate and lots of oatmeal. Airy malt aftertaste. Chewy but not thick mouth-feel. DrHomolka (722), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 10, 2008 On tap at the smokehouse. Served on Nitro, damn it. Pours black with the ubiquitous nitrogen light tan head. Aroma is really nice. Chocolate, nutty, oats maybe. Flavor does not live up to the promise of the aroma. Very watery. I’m assuming this is very low in alcohol and unfortunately I found it to be very low in flavor as well. This would be a nice session stout, which no doubt is what this is meant to be, I just thought it was going to be great from the aroma and unfortunately I was let down. Dogbrick (2807), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 8, 2008 On nitro draught at the Smokehouse. The beer pours dark brown with a medium light brown head that dissipates steadily. Rings of lacing on the glass. The aroma is roasty with notes of coffee, malt and hops. Medium, silky smooth body with a roasted character. Coffee and dark chocolate dominate, with notes of hops in the background. The finish is roasty with a lingering coffee aftertaste. Pretty good overall. ogglethorp (882), Ohio, USA Jun 21, 2008 On cask. Pours dark dark brown, with a decent sized tan colored head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, caramel, light floral hops. Flavor is chocolate, some roast, caramel. Palate is medium bodied, mild carbonation, finished bitter. A little watery, close to being very good, but just lacks in body and flavor. Sammy (3930), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 18, 2008 Good cask fresh up at Barley’s Smokehouse location. Black with lots of lace. Above average mouthfeel. A mouthfeel of barley, a residual of chocolate. Darkover (1308), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jun 18, 2008 Very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Dry finish. Drinkable.
