Commercial Description:
As the most passionate of you know, there is a serious worldwide hop shortage. A major warehouse fire and several climatic catastrophies have created the perfect storm that means a dearth of hops. We aren't sitting still, though. Some of your favorite ales may not be brewed as often as they have in the past, but we endevour to come up with new treasures, using whatever we can get our hands on. Our first effort is an IPA. We call it Hop Envy because we think you'll like this offering so much, those breweries without our hops might get a little envious. Hop shortage? There's no shortage of hops here!

Had this on tap at the Columbus Microbrewery Festival. This was my favorite IPA at the event and I tried them all. You could taste a nice citrus in addition to all the hops. I will have to make sure to stop in to Barleys and have this one again.

On Firkin @ the Alehouse. Hazy yellow orange pour with a soapy head...which I imagine the head will change when it moves to regular draft. Aroma of bright citrus, light bready malt, orange zest, and a bit of green/grass/pine as well. Flavors of bright citrus/grapefruit, orange zest/rind, and bready pale malt. Medium body, brightly bitter with a bitter/dry finish. Can’t wait to try the stuff on draft where I imagine it will shine a bit better with a somewhat tighter carbonation.

opaque light burnt orange, wispy white head, streaks of patterned lace, huge sweet citrus hop aroma with the perfect sugary grapefruit character, creamy body, lots of citrus flavor, touch of tangerine sweetness, light bitterness keeps the balance but allows the hop flavor be the star of the show,

Hazy orange yellow color with a light head. The aroma is lovely. Lots of fruity hops (orange and tangerine are dominant with maybe a touch of grapefruit.) with a sweet undertone. The taste does not disappoint. Grapefruit hops with hints of orange. The malt backbone is not quite enough for me but it is there and does give you a nice pallet on which to play with the hops. Towards the finish you switch from fruit to a strong pine presence that lingers and really dries out your pallet. Full body with a nice dry finish. Very good, very hoppy!

On firkin @ the Alehouse: Pours a hazy orange gold with a loose frothy off white head. Aroma, citrus, and floral hops, pale bready malts. Flavor, citrus, oranges, floral notes, pale malty, very dry, with some good bitterness. Very tasty beer.

Tap @ Alehouse: Cloudy orange pour with a sticky white head. Aroma is definitely a blast of citrus hop. Flavor is a nicely spicy hops with a bitterness that lingers on the palate. Malts coat the tongue in the middle of the taste, and then bitterness rushes in to round out the flavor on the back end. One of their better IPAs.

Draft at Alehouse #1. Poured hazy copper with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate to heavy sour citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a slick texture. moderate to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium smooth bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. A standout beer.
